Idaho's standout tailback is nursing an ankle sprain.

The bad news for Idaho: Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan is due back for Saturday's WAC opener in Moscow.

The worse news: Standout running back Deonte Jackson is questionable with a high ankle sprain for the game against No. 19 Hawaii.

Jackson, the WAC's leading rusher, injured his ankle in the second half of the Vandals' 42-35 loss to Northern Illinois. Idaho coach Robb Akey said Monday the high ankle sprain diagnosis was worse than he had anticipated.

Jackson rushed for 111 yards on 20 carries against Northern Illinois, and through four games leads the WAC with 537 yards and 100 rushing attempts. Jackson, who has three 100-yard games, ranks seventh nationally with 134.25 yards per game.

If Jackson cannot play, the Vandals will turn to senior Jayson Bird (18 carries, 101 yards this season) and possibly Brian Flowers, who has played just one game this season and is battling a hamstring problem.

Akey said Flowers' status for Saturday's game is uncertain.

In other Vandal injury news, Akey said he expects offensive tackle Kris Anderson (leg) and defensive end Ben Alexander to play against the Warriors (4-0).

Kickoff is 3 p.m. at the Kibbie Dome. The Vandals are 1-3.

QB BRENNAN DUE BACK FOR UNBEATEN HAWAII

Brennan (sprained ankle) missed Saturday?s 66-10 blowout of Division I-AA Charleston Southern to rest his ailing right ankle.

Brennan said his ankle is still swollen and tender, but he will be ready for Saturday?s game.

?My ankle felt good this past week, but coach said that he didn?t really want to push it unless he had to,? Brennan said. ?I should be 100 percent.?

Backup quarterback Tyler Graunke completed 22-of-36 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns in the win. He also was intercepted twice.
