As if the Rangers weren't at enough of a disadvantage, their efforts to run practice yesterday were hampered by the fact that six players -- including the team's top three forwards, Jaromir Jagr, Martin Straka and Michael Nylander -- were absent because of the flu.

Rangers coach Tom Renney insisted the absences won't have a long-term effect on his team's preparation for the series.

"It sort of interrupts (the team's preparation), but we thought all along that today would be one of those practices where we at least look at some things we want to have in place for Saturday and really, kind of (practice hard) tomorrow," Renney said.

"It delays things a little bit, but I don't think we need to be overly concerned with that. Much of what we're doing we've done in the past already."
