Quarterback Christian Hackenberg and the Jets on Saturday will play their second preseason game, at the Detroit Lions. What are some key storylines to watch in this game, as coach Todd Bowles and Co. hit the road after beating the Titans in the preseason opener?
Expect Hackenberg to probably play from the beginning of the second quarter in Detroit until the end of the third.
KICKING BATTLE
Ross Martin is absolutely giving veteran Chandler Catanzaro a run for his money.
Catanzaro has looked inconsistent in training camp so far. And he missed his lone field goal attempt ? albeit from 55 yards ? in the opener against the Titans.
Martin didn't kick in that game. Presumably, he'll be the first kicker up for a field goal opportunity in Detroit. He faltered in preseason games last year, when he lost out to Nick Folk. Can Martin cash in now?
BILAL POWELL'S PRESEASON DEBUT
Powell, a running back, didn't play in the preseason opener, due to a sore neck. But he is back now.
And the Jets' starters likely will play for at least the first quarter in Detroit. Powell will get plenty of action.
He was more efficient than Matt Forte last year. And Forte is currently nursing a sore hamstring that has sidelined him for most of camp. This is an early chance for Powell to show the coaches he deserves more action in 2017 than he got in 2016.
