Johnson aims for 4th Brickyard 400 win

Jimmie Johnson goes for his third-straight win at the Brickyard 400 ? and fourth win in the past five years ? when the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series makes a stop at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday.

A win would put Johnson among some prestigious company, as only five other drivers have four or more wins at the 2.5-mile oval in Speedway, Indiana.

Johnson is a +200 favorite in Auto Racing Odds at betED.com, followed by Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch, both at +475.

Other drivers in the elite group of four-or-more wins at the IMS include Gordon, Johnson?s Hendrick Motorsports teammate, who won the very first Brickyard 400 in 1994 ? the first race other than the Indianapolis 500 to be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1916. Gordon went on to win the Brickyard 400 in 1998, 2001 and 2004.

IndyCar legends A.J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears also have four wins a piece at Indianapolis, while Formula One star Michael Schumacher holds the record for most wins at Indy. Schumacher won the United States Grand Prix there five times, including four in a row from 2003-06.

But Johnson is the one who is on a real roll at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, last year becoming the first driver to win the Brickyard 400 in back-to-back years.

While the Brickyard 400 has lost some of its luster, it is still considered the second-biggest race on the Sprint Cup Series circuit after the season-opening Daytona 500.

The race is also a barometer of sorts in terms of Sprint Cup winners: the winner of the Brickyard 400 has gone on to win the Cup championship eight times in the 16-year history of the race.

Kevin Harvick, who won the Brickyard 400 in 2003, is in first place in the 2010 Sprint Cup standings, 103 points ahead of second-place Gordon.
