'Jupiter Ascending' Was So Bad It Bummed Me Out

So what's the lesson? Well, here are a few. First, maybe the Wachowskis shouldn't be given the kind of blank check freedom they've been given. It pains me to say that, but it's the truth. Second, it's all about the script. If that dialogue doesn't work, rewrite it or don't make the movie. Third, world building is hard. There's no right way to do it, but this is the wrong way. The reason you can't throw people into the deep end of your meticulously developed science fiction world isn't because they won't be able to follow. Audiences are pretty good at following a coherent story no matter how weird it gets. The reason you can't do it is because it all seems like a joke if the audience hasn't been given a reason to care about what's happening on the screen. And at no point during Jupiter Ascending did it feel like we should care about these characters. It was just too awful. And it makes me sad.

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.

save your money

Good grief, previews showed a newly re-hashed Terminator trilogy...Old Arnold must need cigar money.

I have seen reviews from crap to good.

Visually stunning, but the movie is wooden.
It lacks any sense of involving the audience with some feeling that
you want to emotionally relate to the good guy characters.

Part of the problem IMHO is the leading lady and the thin plot.

Mila Kunis can barely act, and with her giant bug eyes on the big screen, I found myself rooting for the bad guys to finish her off.

The lame reason for her to be Royalty, I read the plot on-line after I saw the movie, is she was the "genetic re-incarnation" of the queen mother.
Her claim to royalty may have been mumbled in the very beginning hard to understand dialogue, and I missed it.

Channing was passible as an emotionless alien-human-wolflike something or other bounty hunter hired to save Kunis from the plot
to kill Kunis for her inheritance (planet Earth)

Some interesting aliens, good special effects, very predictable ending, wait for redbox and a crappy rainy snowy day, get comfortable and nap thru it, like my wife and I did.

I give it a 4 turd rating on a scale of 5. 5 turds is a very large freshly deposited steaming pile on a very cold day.
