Kansas -5.5 over Cuse
Not a strong play because Cuse has the talent to win this outright. But in attacking the Cuse defense Roy has a post player that can shoot from the elbow and FT line and put the ball down on the floor. That tonite is the key for me.Roy will flash Collison to the high post.If you see Cuses 2-3 many times the high post flasher is not guarded. They are no threat in shooting and dribbling.Cuses weakness is Kansas's strength.Of course Boe will adjust and make changes.Sweetney of Georgetown attacked the Cuse zone the same way.
KU also screens the zone on those skip passes and back picks the weakside defender better then anyone I've ever seen.Henrich gets a skip pass from one corner to the other. The weakside defender gets jammed and Henrich gets an open look.
KU's transition offense and secondary break are also outstanding. No team runs the secondary break better. They never talk about that on TV.But KU's breaks are plays. It's not just kick out the ball and fill the lanes.Everyone goes to a spot and if there is no layup you start your offense.
Cuse has 2 freshman that are probaly the 2 best ever on one team.Mac and Carmelo are unreal. Both will create problems for Kansas esp. with KU's depth problem.Warrick is playing like a pyscho and Edlelin is so smooth.Cuse doesn't get any production from there post positions but Boe only wants them to rebound and play defense.
You can do all the matchups, past games, trends, etc.
I just think KU is a little more experienced and I believe the "Fab 5" theory might be a factor.Back in '92 Michigan and the Fab 5 led by Webber played liked vets even though they were "puppies" for 35 minuts. But the last 4 or 5 minuts they played like freshmen.Duke was more experienced and pulled out the win.Carmelo and Webber have a lot in common.
And although Mac and Anthony don't play like freshmen just maybe tonite in a tight game their youth will come out.
I'll take Kansas -5.5.
Cannot lose tonite.I got lucky and picked out of a envelope Kansas in a bar Pool I have done for the past 20 yrs.So if kansas wins the Box wins big.But also made a prop bet on the Cuse and will win big if they win.
Don't ever recall being in a situation like this. The last time I won the bar pool was with Valvano and NC St.
Hope this is a great game.My heart is with the Cuse, the BE,Boe,etc but tonite for the 1st time in my life I'm cheering for the Jayhawks and the "Fab 5" theory.

Will post tomr Womans game and say goodbye to many in here.Appreciate all the comments and pats on the back.Learned and played so many picks here from so many of you.

If I had 3 wishes for tonite, one would be, Kansas to win outright,Kansas to win by -5.5 and that instead of sitting at home in a snow storm watching the game that I was at a bar with Smashmouth,Goat,Doc,Jmizeus,Hoops,Pt gd,Hellothere,InnavationThunder,Wizzard,Fletcher,SenorCapper,Volfan,Cooz,Redking, bohawk and the rest of you drinking a "brew" and shooting the BS.[can't list all you other BS'ers]
I would enjoy sharing a beer with all of you.
My favorite retirement line is when someone asked John Cheney of Temple what will you do when you finally retire....he said...
" Buy a 6 pack of beer,get a couple of my friends together...and sit under a tree...and tell lies."

GL tonite...will post tomr womans game and say a few goodbyes.Hope we all win tonite.

Ah......Leave it to the coach

Ah......Leave it to the coach

Great analysis Box...........

And I'll get the consolation of knowing that you cashed in big if the "CUSE" loses.......
Its all been said and I also believe that the Orange can win outright tonight..........with that I'm grabbing the points and hoping for a great game!

twofingers...Boe is in my coaches assoc. and will be our guest speaker in Sept.I worked 2 summers at his camp so it hurts I'm going against him tonite.
He has a great sense of humor and really is a nice guy.And if they win I still win.Just KU pays more.
Thanks Doc,
Bear,I knew you would be taking the Cuse. And they could easily beat KU.If Henrich shoots like he did a few games ago and Collison gets doubled up.
Anytime you have a Carmelo type he can control the game.
But I'll go back to Vets vs Pups.
I saw 2 kids that Fairfield recruited up at the NY finals.Timmy got the local kid from Glen Falls HS,Michael VanSchaick,a 6'2 shooting gd.This kid will be hitting them from the Long Island Sound playing at the Harbor in Bridgeport. The other kid was McQuaid Jesuits Marty O'Sullivan a 6'7 2gd or 3 who can stick 3's all day.Stags weakness of outside shooters should be corrected.
And I didn't mean to leave you out of the bar. You'd be sitting right next to me...like many others.
I made a prop bet a few weeks ago with the Cuse.So I'm kinda covered in tonites game.Just will win double of that if Kansas wins

hey box

hey box

just wanted to say HI and great job posting this year, I missed a lot of stuff due to my own coaching, but your write ups were always full of insight and info, great job ... hehe, I guess God didnt want Barnes to win afterall ....

hey, watch this kid, Aaron Brooks who's going to Oregon next year ... he made Parade 3rd team, and his HS coaches were 2 of my X-Pgs when we were blessed to win state championships ... aaron is a class kid and knocked in 18 pts in last all-atar game and started in Macs game ... he had 38 in state finale winning mvp for Franklin HS, state champs for first time since jason terry led them back to back
