LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE +3 1/2 Double Play
The Rajun Cajuns have gone Bowling in 6 of the past 8 years, winning 4 of their last 5 Bowls. Lafayette has played a much tougher schedule, playing App St twice, Miss St and Alabama this year. I have them winning this game and will use them as a Double Play getting the 3 1/2 points.
NORTH TEXAS +7 Double Play
Utah St Head Coach is off to Texas Tech, and he took both coordinators and six assistants with him. North Texas is a legitimately good team with a strong defense. The Mean Green smoked Arkansas 44-17 earlier this year and lost just three games, all by one score. I'll take the generous spread and make this a Double Play.
ARIZONA STATE +7 -120
Wins vs Michigan State, Utah and USC and narrow loses to Washington, Stanford and Oregon. Once again, I'll take the generous points in what should be a close game.
GEORGIA SOUTHERN -3
First off, fading the MAC in bowl games is generally a good play. Current MAC teams are just 32-50, and more than half of those wins are from Toledo and Miami, who have a combined 17-7 bowl record. The deciding factor for me is Georgia Southern has a +22 turnover margin.
APP ST -6 1/2
I absolutely love this team! They are ranked in the top-50 in S&P+ in both defense and offense. The Mountaineers are 10-2 with one loss coming narrowly to Penn State in overtime after they shut down that high-powered offense the entire first half and the other loss was without starting quarterback Zac Thomas. I'm not thrilled about laying 6 1/2, but I think App St wins here easily.
