Before AND after the Washington game I thought how can anyone bet against this Alabama defense? Then the Fiesta Bowl happened! Clemson?s total domination of Ohio State has convinced me that this is their year. The Tigers' had a 24-9 FD edge, 205-88 rushing edge, & 265-127 passing edge, along with a 13-minute edge in the game clock. Now you can say what you want about Ohio State, but that is extremely impressive against an Urban Meyer team that had one month to prepare for a Bowl/Playoff game.
This is also a revenge game for Clemson after last year?s loss to Bama in the NC game. But most importantly for me, Clemson has QB Deshaun Watson. Watson had a great game last year vs Alabama as he threw for over 400 yards and 4 TD?s! He also ran for 73 yards as Clemson had 550 total yards in last year?s National Championship, and that was w/o the best wide receiver in the country Mike Williams who will be playing in this game for Clemson. A big reason why Bama won that game is because they had TD?s on a 50-yd run, a 53 yd pass, a 51 yd pass and a 96 yd KO return. Bama also recovered an onside kick in that game. I just don?t see that happening this year if the Clemson/Ohio State game is any indication and the Tigers can continue to play defense like that.
With all that said, obviously you can?t commit turn-overs vs the Crimson Tide. They feast off turn-overs so Watson HAS to protect the ball in this game, and I?m betting he will. The magic number is one turnover or less for Clemson. In the seven games the Tigers have had zero or one turnover; they've outscored their opponent by an average of 36.5 points. In the seven games with two or more turnovers, Clemson has only won by 8.3 points. I can guarantee you that Dabo Swinney and his staff has been preaching that all week.
This should be a great game and I give Clemson a real shot of winning the National Championship.
But I will take the generous points just in case. I?m taking CLEMSON +7 Double Play WINNER!!!.
