Kobalt Tools 400 Preview

NASCAR heads to Las Vegas this weekend for the Kobalt Tools 400 on Sunday with Fox televising the race. Jimmie Johnson is the defending champion and he is the 4-1 favorite at SBG Global.com. Kyle Busch is the second choice at 5-1 as he looks to win on his home track. Last week?s winner in Phoenix, Jeff Gordon is listed at 6-1.

This will be the 14th Spring Cup race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Jimmie Johnson has won four times and there have been eight different drivers who have wins in Las Vegas. Starting up front helps but it does not guarantee a win. Only five of the thirteen races have been won by a driver starting from a Top 10 position.

You have to like one of the top three favorites to win in Las Vegas but don?t rule out Carl Edwards. He finished second at Daytona and may have won last week in Phoenix if he had not wrecked. He may still have some bad feelings against Kyle Busch who caused him to wreck so those two should be worth watching on Sunday. You should also keep an eye on Matt Kenseth and Brian Vickers. Last week Vickers blamed Kenseth for wrecking him and vowed retribution.

The odds at SBG Global have Denny Hamlin at single-digits but Hamlin didn?t do well at Daytona and was not a factor in Phoenix. Hamlin is overvalued right now and he could struggle again this week at Las Vegas. Another driver who may struggle is Kurt Busch. Even though this is his home track he has not finished better than 16th in his past five starts in Las Vegas.

If you are looking for a couple of longshots then Mark Martin and Jeff Burton at 23.5 to 1 are worth considering. Martin has a win at the track and has finished in the Top 10 a total of ten times. Jeff Burton has won twice in Las Vegas and has five top five finishes. The driver that has been getting some money at the sportsbook even before qualifying is Kasey Kahne. He is listed at 18-1 and considering he has done nothing recently there must be some people who think he can win this week. Kahne has not won a regular season race in almost two years.
