Annapolis, MD (WJZ) Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich has denied a request to spare the life of convicted killer Steven Oken.
The governor was one of Oken's last resorts in his quest to avoid death.
Meanwhile the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Virginia again refused to block Oken's execution. Oken's attorneys sent an appeal earlier in the day based on arguments that his trial attorney and the first attorney to represent him in his appeals didn't do everything they could to save his life.
Oken's lawyers say that the state's method of cutting deeply into flesh to administer the lethal drugs would cause their client undue pain.
The U.S. Supreme Court last night threw out a stay of execution granted to the triple murderer and denied Oken's request for another stay.
The Supreme Court ruled last month that an Alabama inmate could pursue a similar claim. The justices were told that if the procedure was done improperly, the procedure could cause Larry Nelson to hemorrhage badly and suffer heart problems before the drug cocktail could kill him.
The 42-year-old Oken was sentenced to death for the 1987 rape and murder of Dawn Marie Garvin, a 20-year-old newlywed.
He was also convicted of killing his sister-in-law in Maryland and a motel clerk in Maine.
from her brother...
" Dawn Marie (Romano) Garvin, was born on January 10, 1967. At the time she was born, my father was in Vietnam. It was not until Dawn was nine months old that my father first laid eyes on the little girl who would soon steal his heart and become ?Daddy?s Little Girl.? Dawn was a very smart girl. She was on the honor roll all throughout high school and was in the Homecoming Court. She worked at the Army Publication Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground and was going to college to become a CPA. Dawn grew into a beautiful woman and, at the age of 20, she married her high-school sweetheart, Keith. Keith was stationed at the Oceana Naval Station in Virginia, but Dawn remained in Maryland because Keith was going to be going on a ?float? with the Navy for six months. Even though my parents tried to talk Dawn into living at home while Keith was away, Dawn made the decision to make a home of her own for her and Keith"......
there`s more, but it`s heartbreaking.....the murder was 17 years ago.....theis s.o.b. has been breathing air for 17 years while his victims rotted in their graves.....and his lawyers handcuffed the system...
he admitted to the rape and murder of the three women...
way to go bobby....you da` man
