Two Horses that i like are Ten Most Wanted and Ats.
I'll have to look at one of Bafferts horses for the Ex's & Tri's
Nothing in stone till the post draw and weather forecast.
Best of Luck

Also liking ten most wanted, ran impressive in the illinois derby, and will give favorite empire maker a serious run for the money.

Not sure what my final plays for the derby will be, but I will have ten most wanted somewhere in there.

I think the value is with Indian Express but I also like Ten Most Wanted. I will probably use Empire Maker on top in a couple exactas but only with big longshots like Brancusi and Sir Cherokee in the underneath slot.

Best value: Indian Express
Most hyped: Empire Maker, Atswhatimtalkinabout
Best longshot: Brancusi

Realistically the horses who could win: Empire Maker, Indian Express and Ten Most Wanted.

The "What am I doing here crowd": Outta Here, Senor Swinger, Lone Star Sky, Supah Blitz and Ten Cents a Share

Tyler Baze (has a brother Russell):

Good young jockey out here on the West Coast tracks. Should become a "national" name jockey in the near future, could that time come Saturday????

Still not in the class of Bailey, Stevens, Day, etc.... but with Baffert showing confidence who am I to question anything?

Offlee Wild had the fastest 5 furlong workout of the Derby horses today at CD 59.16 The track was playing considerably fast.

Funny Cide ran 5 furlongs in 58.43 today, that workout was at Belmont Park though.

Indian Express - I need to wait and see what post he draws. Hopefully, he doesn't end up in the second gate. I think that the pace needs to be softer than in the SA Derby for him to have a chance. DI (2.08) indicates that he can get the 1 1/4 mile distance.

Kafwain - It's too bad that he can't run as I thought he had a decent chance.

Buddy Gil - Don't count this one out. Winning the SA Derby counts for something and he had to work hard to beat the 'Express. It helped that he was chasing a fast pace.

Brancusi - I have to be honest, foreign horses confuse me as I don't know the significance of the races they run in (see Indian Express for this also). Does anybody out there have insight into this horse?

Empire Maker - Will be a heavy favorite and is my pick to win. It's hard to go against a horse that won both the Florida Derby and Wood Memorial.

Tyler Baze - Another jockey from the Baze family. He is only 20 years old and riding in his first KY Derby. If his horse gets a little room on the lead and things break right, who knows....

I already have future bets on - Empire Maker, Buddy Gil, Sir Cherokee, Offlee Wild, Funny Cide and 10 most wanted, will look some more now that the post positions have been announced and do some kind of tri and ex boxes with them.

Good Luck to all,

LL

Kingpin-

We maybe don't know much about Indian Express' Panama races. They probably were against nothing. But we do know his Santa Anita Derby was very sharp. The only negative is that it was such a huge move forward you wonder if there will be anything left next time out.

As for Brancusi, all his races have been in the US. He was beaten a couple lengths in the San Felipe with a wide trip and was 2-3 wide the whole way in the Blue Grass on a day where the rail was a conveyor belt. Under the circumstances, you'd think Peace Rules would've won by 10 but Brancusi was beaten less than 4 lengths.

Go Bucks-

I don't see how the 16 post helps Ten Most Wanted. The regular starting gate only accomodates 14 horses so the outside three will be in an auxillary starting gate. He figures to probably be 4 wide on both turns. If fact, he's become a throwout for me.

Valuist,

I agree that post 16 is a lot to overcome For Ten Most Wanted. Sir Cherokee also moved forward quite a bit in the Ark. Derby. I thought the fast pace might have set the race up too nicely for him, but look at that 6w rally.

I'm starting to like Offlee Wild as a longshot. American Turf Monthly cites good breeding for the classic distance. This could be one that makes a big move forward.

Still more handicapping to be done. Oh yeah, almost forgot, Funny Cide is intriguing but can he get the disance?
