I?d take him #1 and trade Rosen if I were Cardinals, he is a special talent in my opinion, with Kingsbury as his OC, he will put up scary numbers

NFLN's Charley Casserly: Comments from teams on Kyler Murray were worst he has heard

Frank Schwab,Yahoo Sports?March 5, 2019

It?s an annual rite of passage for top quarterbacks entering the NFL: Critics come out knocking them for ... well, anything and everything.

There was minor pullback over Kyler Murray not working out at the NFL scouting combine last week, but mostly he had a good week considering everyone left Indianapolis thinking he?d be the first pick of the draft. But we all knew the backlash was coming at some point. Very few elite prospects at quarterback avoid getting ripped, and Murray won?t be an exception.

Former NFL general manager and current NFL Network analyst Charley Casserly said Tuesday that the comments about Murray coming out of the combine were the worst he had ever heard about a highly rated quarterback. Yes, the worst. He was around when Johnny Manziel was a first-round pick.

And to think, there?s more than seven weeks to go before the draft.

Kyler Murray apparently didn?t impress all teams
Casserly started his comments on Murray by saying, ?He better hope [Arizona coach] Kliff Kingsbury takes him No. 1 because this was not good.?

Apparently Murray didn?t make a good impression at the combine.

?Leadership? Not good. Study habits? Not good. The board work? Below not good,? Casserly said. ?Not good at all in any of those areas and raising major concerns about what this guy is going to do.?

That?s pretty much a clean sweep. Casserly hasn?t been anti-Murray; on Twitter he said that Murray?s height isn?t a big deal because Russell Wilson succeeded at the same size. Matt Miller of Bleacher Report said ?a few teams? thought Murray interviewed poorly last week. So Casserly isn?t alone.

Even if Murray is viewed by most teams as a bad leader who doesn?t study well and was unimpressive drawing up plays on the board, it might not matter anyway.

Cardinals may be set on Murray
Casserly also said on NFL Network he heard the Arizona Cardinals are shopping Josh Rosen in a trade. It?s one of many indications that Murray will go No. 1 overall to the Cardinals, even if everything Casserly heard is true.

The knocks against Murray are unimportant if the Cardinals don?t care. It seems all signs right now point to Murray being the top pick of the draft, and if that?s the case then what the other 31 teams think doesn?t matter.

Murray isn?t the first quarterback to get this treatment. From Cam Newton to Josh Rosen to Lamar Jackson and almost everyone in between, part of the pre-draft process is tearing down the top quarterbacks. It?s fairly predictable. It will happen next year to Tua Tagovailoa. We?ll spend two more years praising Trevor Lawrence, then he?ll get ripped too before he?s drafted.

So welcome to the NFL, Kyler. You haven?t really made it as a top quarterback prospect until you?re picked apart before the draft.

This young man has all the physical tools, what Casserly I believe was trying to say is Kyler doesn't have it between the ears and that was a stigma Kyler's father also had who was a 2 way guy in baseball and football. Kyler has the arm, speed and athleticism, but you have to be able to think on your feet and on the fly as well as know the playbook and some NFL teams value that the 'old school way' and many teams don't care.

You can't compare Kyler Murray to his predecessor neither as both are totally different physical specimens. Michael Vick wasn't a cerebral QB and got by on pure athleticism and arm strength as well as his legs. In today's age of a big field that is getting smaller with larger linemen who are faster, bigger and stronger, QBs have to be able to read a "D", run through the "D" and find the open WRs/TEs while on the run or eluding the pocket.

I wasn't a big fan of Mayfields but he had his moments in his rookie year and he made some adjustments, however, in 2019, NFL teams will have enough game film on him to make adjustment as well. Small QBs in the NFL have not been totally successful, but a handful along the way did purdy good like Tarkenton, Brees, Flutie, Wilson, and two have Superbowl rings in Brees and Wilson.

I believe some of the hype from Charlie's words of what he "heard" from other execs he may know, which probably are consultants since most GMs are younger these days, was to sway teams to make trade demands to move up in the draft or devalue the ability of Kyler Murray between the ears.

Kyler can do all the physical things but I don't think he's as good as DeShaun Watson was coming out of Clemson.

Charley Casserly was one of the most incompetent GMs in nfl history, Murray is a special talent and should be the top pick

Charley's work with the Redskins was some of the best by any employee including scout and GM.

His choices may have soured at the end in Houston but make no mistake Casserly was and is no hack.

I don't think you were born when he found Jacoby and Bostic and the Hogs were about to take over.

5' 10'' and playing weight will be 185 pounds...and the Cards O line is Swiss Cheese..

let's hope the "The Wave Offense" finds him lanes to throw and run....Cuzzzz the pocket

all he needs is 6 linemen and 2 tight-ends who can RUN -PASS OPTION BLOCK

OH.........and 5 RECEIVERS familiar with all the routes for RPO and blocking assignments for RPO.

:0003...and then the backup QB has to be familiar with all those because you can't have 2 systems.

This is probably a good bet..I think Kyler will be electric to watch this season, I can?t wait to follow him. I still think he will be a superstar in a few years, he won 3 straight Texas high school state championships, never been done before, I?ve had my eye on him since hs
