For LA,
Even though he threw a complete bullpen session on Wednesday, watch out for O. Perez in early innings coming off sprained ankle and two week layoff between starts.

For Pittsburgh,
Jason Kendall's sore back remains a concern. He was given a shot earlier this week to reduce inflammation, received therapy on the off day Monday and, during the chilly night games this week, he wore a heating pad and kept moving between innings to keep it loose. He was kept out of the game yesterday, and it will depend on how his back responds if he will be able to start tonight.
Also, held out of the starting line yesterday were second baseman Pokey Reese, also with a stiff back, and center fielder Kenny Lofton.

Kendall/Lofton/Reese all in Pitt lineup tonight.

The Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday placed righthander Paul Shuey, their most effective reliever so far this season, on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right knee.

Shuey worked two scoreless innings in Thursday's 3-2 11-inning loss at Cincinnati, lowering his ERA to 0.68. The 32-year-old righthander is 2-1 in 10 relief appearances, allowing just five hits and six walks in 13 1/3 innings while striking out nine.

To fill the roster spot, Los Angeles recalled outfielder Jason Romano from Class AAA Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League. Romano began the season on the Dodgers' roster and was hitting .228 with one home run, six RBI and seven stolen bases in 14 games at Las Vegas.
