Well its easy to figure out who I like...this is my 1st ladies game for me this year..I do some in march but never in January..have mucho respect for Gino...got to hear him many years ago in Hartford,Conn at a basketball clinic way before he became this famous...he is what you see...one of my best friends who coaches girls had his star player play 4 years at Uconn..had many times chances to see them play but something always came up...but tonite my daughter and I are going sitting up front, thru one her fellow teachers whose husband works for the UT athletic dept.. if anyone here can download Geno's post game press conf on youtube..from Jan 9th...it is classic...he is upset at his girls because they are complaining about the refs..what he says is so funny..he wants to send a memo to all officials please don't call fouls against us girls,etc...classic..
Anyway the game... I capped it like I do any game...I thought the line would be -12-14...but some of you here got it at -13.5...unfortunately I was late and got it at -15.5 at 5 dimes..had to open an account there justto play this game...did say to 5 dimes that madjack sent me...
Have watched Texas play 3-4 times on TV..they are good..not the No 2 team but in the top 10..their gds are awesome..Atkins.Higgs and McCarty ...Higgs has been on fire..McCarty is a 5'4 waterbug with so much energy...White and Goudreau are the fds and post players and can hit the bds..this team is quick and athletic..Alston the coach has done a great job since she arrived..they beat OU.WV and Fl St both ranked at the time..they struggled with KSU the other day and TCU upset them...they also lost to Tenn 2 weeks ago..they are a streaky team..they go on a run and score 12-14 points then go on a scoring drought and miss the next 10 shots...well you can't afford a drought tonite because the other team will put you away...
Huskes have unreal talent..the famous line is " we don't rebuild,we reload".. and after losing 3 all americans in the past 2 years they have 4 this year...they have 4 out of 25 final Wooden Award nominees...Williams,Kia Nurse,Nap Col and Katie Lou ..but Texas has 2 in Atkins and McCarty...UConn has so much depth that Walker who is a freshman could start for any team in the country..she comes off the bench..Stevens is 6'6 and also comes off the bench...she could be POY in any other conf in the country...depth..that is what they have this yr..
Geno plays a tough non league schedule...they beat Stanford 78-53,Cal 82-47,Maryland 97-72,UCLA by 18,Mich St 96-62...forget the conf games...30 -40 point wins..they beat OU who Texas played 88-64.. Texas won 88-78...
But its defense that really will make the difference tonight.. Huskies can shut you down...when you hold the Stanfords,Marylands,Mich St's to 52,55,and 62 points and these teams are avg in the high 70's ...they did beat Notre Dame by 80-71...
Katie Lou avg 20 pts last yr...she hit 120 3's...c'mon a girl named Katie Lou...you know she can shoot...Collier is avg 15 pts and 8 bds..Gabby is small in size yet avgs 8 bds...Kia Nurse is thier best player...they just beat Houston the other day 95-35....Stevens who doesn't start had 19 points and 10 bds...Walker will be a superstar...what is amazing over every other team...these girls all get 100 assists each...their ball movement is like a clinic...its dribble penetration,pass,screen,pass and Katie Lou wide open for a 3..swish..
Texas is athletic and quick..but tonite they meet a team that is quicker,just as athletic,has depth and plays relentless defense...
