Was l just listining to the PTI talking heads on ESPN saying were Armstrong ranks in the history of sports and they both say he is the greatest cyclest ever. I have to strongly disagree with this because he is obvisly not even close. Is he a great athlete? Yes he is even more so from coming back from cancer and winning the Tour de France 6 times and going for a 7th which is why he is not the greatest. As a cyclest I would have have to rank him 3rd all time behind Jacques Anquetil and Eddy Merckx ( Who in my oppinion is not only the greatest cyclest of all time but also one of the greatest athlets of all time if not the greatest)Will talk more on this latter.

The biggest reason that Armstong is not the greatest is that he ONLY races in the Tour de France. This is the only race that he focusis on. During his 6 year reign as Tour de France champ not once has he tried compete in the Giro d'Italia which is the 2nd most prosteadgous stage race in cycling. Even Migil Indurain won the Giro and The Tour twice in the same year if my memory is correct. He will probably not compete this year also which is a shame since this is his last year.

No way Lance beat Mrs. Gulch (Wicked Witch of the West) from the Wizard of Oz..........That woman rode headon into winds Lance has never seen, never took roids (probable had many to treat), with a basket on her handlebars with a dog intail (no pun) and has done it for over 50 years and never been caught!!!!!

Mrs Gulch the Best Cyclest of all time!!! :mj14:

"the bunker"
he dominates the most prestigious race in cycling for 6 straight years....he trains for the tour de france....that`s his gig....

i think it`s safe to say that he`s the most dominant cyclist that the tour de france has ever seen....
the cancer thing just embelishes the feat...
i`d say that`s plenty...

we here in the states are at a disadvantage..because many have never even heard of those other races....

to use a boxing analogy...if you are the world champion, why worry about fighting for the commonwealth crown?...or the ebu title?....

isn`t it fair to say that the tour is the crown jewel of cycling?
