Laptop Info needed

Hello all, a couple of things I wanted to ask. Im in the midst of purchasing a laptop, Id like to get the most bang for my buck as does everyone...Dont need to print anything ever from it or do much word processing, basically only for internet at airports and when Im on the road traveling..Id appreciate recommendations from people with models and prices less than 2 grand if there are any, or Im willing to go a little higher
Next, This may be a dumb question but Im not a great tech guy. Lets say Im on vacation, could i go to like the public library of that town and plug in my laptop and use the 'net for free? are there any better ways to get online for a few hours to do capping research, dont want to hog a library computer....I know hotels u can pay by minute/hour, but wondering how exactly you get online, that library thing was an idea maybe they let u plug it in their for free but I really confess to not knowing....Thanks in advance, I knew this is a jack-of-all trades site where many different ppl have vast knowledge of things, I appreciate the replies

I have a Compaq Presario 2700 (currently in the shop because the wife spilled coffee in it) and it is great, I use it for the internet and playing horses and thats about all. It has a 1.13 Pentium, 512 meg and 60 gig hard drive along with seperate CD rewrite and DVD drives. I paid just under $1600 for it and think it was worth every penny. I have a wireless setup in the house so it goes everywhere, again very much worth the $170 I paid for that. As far as hooking up on the road I think someone else could help with that better than I could, lots of guys here go to Vegas on a regular basis and take laptops, I think acehighstr8 talked about this not too long ago.
