Giants -112....Giants as a team are hitting over .300 vs southpaws and over the last two season have killed lefty starters (don't have the exact figure in front of me but I do believe it's over 60%)

Alvarez will be limited to 65-70 pitches tonight so the the bullpen will get a lot of work as well. Tomko has been on the wrong side of two decisions this year vs the Dodgers but didn't pitch all that bad in those games. As long as he gets run support, which I feel strongly that he will, then the Giants should be fine tonight.

Good luck.

so far so good. its early, but looks like you capped this one dead on.

whats weird is that alvarez gets bombed as a starter but i swear the guy is nails in long relief. every time the dodgers need a guy to eat innings after their starters has something happen (bad outing, injury, etc), alvarez takes the ball and goes like 5 or 6 scoreless innings. happened last week against the angels. happened last year when penny fu.cked up his arm and had to leave the game.

kinda puzzling to see him get smashed like this as a starter. but im glad he is, cuz it means youre cashing  (no jinx intended. still early, but again, you definitely capped the game right regardless of outcome)

Thanks G -- still not over but looking good.

Sorry I didn't have the exact figures sooner but thought I'd post them --- Giants in the past two years are 62% overall vs lefties and 72% vs southpaws at home.

As for Alvarez I agree he's become a much better relief pitcher than starter. Maybe it has to but it to do with preparation, or level of comfort, I just don't know. He as a solid starter in the mid 90's but it looks like his best days are way behind him.

Whenever the Giants play a lefty they are worth a look -- especially at home. The %'s work out nicely, as long as the chalk isn't too high.
