I thought with a few games left on the board I thought I would choose one and make it my spotlight game and get some information out there. I did not make a selection on the game, however I thought for those who wanted to take a swing at it I would try to provide some information. Hope it helps and if you have anything to add, please feel free.
KC @ Oakland
Since this is the first game of the series the umpire will not be available until minutes before game time, and anyone with the info can post it to assist when it does become available.
In the last ten Kansas City is actually the hotter of the two teams as they are 6-4 compared to the A?s at 4-6. Hitting wise against right-handers they are about even as KC comes in at .300, while the A?s are at .302. However if you check the individual averages of the players in the last seven days you may think differently. The A?s have just one player with at least ten at bats hitting .400, while the royals boast three players hitting over .400 with at least 20 at bats. ( Guiel .423, Tucker .417, and Ibanez .481) This does not include hot hitting Mike Sweeny who his hitting .333 with four long balls in that time span.
Pitching for the A?s tonight will be Corey Lidle, and although he has lost seven of his nine last decisions, the A?s have actually won four of his last six starts. That however is as good as it gets. Lidle has yet to win at night 0-2, with a lofty era of 6.14, and equally bad at home at 1-5 with an era of 5.82. This is saying a lot, as the A?s have been outstanding at home this year 26-18, to include winning 10 of the last 13.
Sedlacek gets the start for the Royals and he has been less than glamorous as well this year.
The royals are winless in his three starts as he is giving up an average of six runs per game. The only bright spot for this guy is that he pitches well (relatively, of course) on the road as his era is at his lowest at 2.31, unfortunately he is on one of the worst road teams in baseball at 13-30.
In game one of the series these teams have an interesting roll in tonight?s contest. The Royals are 11-16 in game one, but 9-8 after a loss the only number they are over .500 in series stats. The A?s are 14-13 in game one of a series but are just 5-7 after a loss the only number they are below .500 in series stats.
