I have several small sink holes in my yard. What is the best way to fill them? These are the ankle breaker type of holes. Most are very small in diameter where your foot could fit in them, but some can be rather deep (above the ankle).

My guess is this is due to the previous owners being aged and never taking care of the yard. I don't believe it will be a long term problem with regular care for the yard. The previous owners owned the house for 45 years and were quite elderly when we purchased it.

Any advice?

EASIEST WAY IS

1.50 bags of top soil from HOMEDEPOT..

fill and tamp..fill and tamp..repeat

when you go to seed use MOO compost/topsoil mix from HOMEDEPOT.

better ingrediants for germanating the seed.

cut that area high for a couple months to allow grass to deep root

So it's normal for it to continue to settle and settle? This was my concern. Is there any reason to fill the bottom of the hole with gravel or sand to give a more solid foundation?

Or is that just a waste?

you can use fill dirt or rock...

allow about 4'' for your soil to give ample room for roots

4x4 good for tamping..

holes they can be a pain in the ass.

tamp...tamp..tamp..

"the bunker"
we had underground wasp`s nests when we moved in...had holes and tunnels...made the yard very hilly and uneven...........put a hose in one of the holes and let the water run...i don`t know where the water went but it never came to the surface,lol....we filled em in and that was the end of it...

strange part is that the ground is almost all rock beneath about a foot of soil...i actually needed to rent a jackhammer to dig holes and plant some shrubs....how those mofos dug in there is beyond me...

that was 20 years ago and everything settled and turned out fine...

very odd...

g.l. with it....
