Any parents have these for their kid? My boy is almost 5 and my daughter is two, my parents want to get him one for Xmas and asked what I thought???

I have never used/seen one so I am not sure. I would imagine he will outgrow it in a year or so, but then my daughter would be 4, so she could use it.

Mine had them and really enjoyed them. I obviously know that there is a big price difference but imo your 5 year old would prefer a nintendo ds. I guess it is according to what you want them exposed to (educational vs just games) but my kids love the ds. Btw my oldest is 5 and youngest 3. Both play the ds but only the 5 year old really "gets it". Doesnt stop the 3 year old from enjoying though. GL

Each of my kids played with the leapster. The older kids have out grown it and have the ds. My youngest who will turn 4 falls asleep every night playing the leapster. Great investment...

My oldest ( now 7) loved his and still plays it. My daughter has one and she is five. We will be getting my 4 yr old one for this Christmas because he needs his own since he only gets to play it when they put one down.

It's educational - math and english. My son has the star wars math one and absolutely loves it. Games are between 20-30 bucks but Target and Toys R Us normally run a Christmas special of buy one get one free.

I recommend it. Once my oldest gets older - 9 or 10 he will probably get something like the iTouch. It can do everything like the DS (games) but also has movie and music capability.

My 4yo and 3yo play leapster and love it. Don't know about the ds, but am more interested in them playing number and letter games. Not that it has everything to do with the leapster, but my 4yo sounds out words and according to teacher and director, he is way ahead of his 4yo class and even the 5yo class in terms of reading.
