I might just be skeptical....but it just seems rather odd to me that this lottery is not done in front of America (and it would take no more time to draw balls than it would to show cards)...and that the first time that the 'favored' team gets the first pick in like 10 years.....is to a team that was highly suspected of tanking the season....and just happens to be the nearest hometown for the most talked about high school player ever. Maybe its all just coincidence....and the favored team was just due to get the top pick.......but man.....I just find the whole "drawing behind closed doors" thing big time fishy.

if it could only be expressed in words how PESSIMISTIC the entire city was as far as the lottery expectations were concerned.

the cavs have been one of the unluckiest franchises in professional sports for damn near two decades.

every single cavs fan wanted to be optimistic about the lottery but given the history of the cavs, it was hard not to think the cavs would get the 4th or 5th pick.

its really amazing how one seventeen year old kid has completely rejuvenated a franchise on the verge of being possibly sold

and he hasnt even played a single game yet.

obviously being from canton- you have a general idea on how unlucky the cavs have been- but as a native clevelander its been so painful the last 20 years.

for once- a positive

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Lebron had commented months ago that he would NOT play for the Cavs so they should not bother drafting him.

Does anyone else remember this?

This was the reason I started disliking him. I hate when players try to dictate where they go especially when they are young players who have not yet earned the right to choose where they are going to play. Same reason I used to dislike Kobe even though he was a local talent I watched in high school. He didn't want to play for Charlotte cause he wanted to go out to LA LA LAND. He more or less forced that trade.

This goes way back to John Elway, Bo Jackson, etc... and my personal favorite asshole ... J.D. Drew who wouldn't play for my beloved Phillies. I hope J.D.'s injury-plagued career continues.

you are correct. although his comment wasnt so much that he didnt want to play for the cavs. i think it was him expressing frustration over the cavs firing lucas- with whom james had established a good relationship

but i do agree- it annoys me when kids barely old enough to drive can dictate which team drafts them and what market they play in.

yeah, youre right gman....it is a great thing for the Cavs....I just wish people actually got to watch the balls being drawn....dont understand why they do that

I used to be a diehard Cavs fan until at the age of like 15....they traded away the guy I idolized.....Ron Harper....for that score-a-minute wonder Danny Ferry. Have hated the organization ever since....but in recent years I've tried to follow them again

I understand, I think, from watching the news the way they do it -not-exactly-live is because of the sheer number of picks they need to go through which are 1001 lottery combinations. Each team has a list of XXX number combinations which are theirs.

OK so they are ready to go the NBA now draws a number for the first pick, OK so Cleveland won. But now Cleveland still has 250ish numbers in there that could be drawn. If the second number is drawn for the #2 pick, hey Cleveland again. Throw it out, redraw. Cleveland again. Redraw. Cleveland again. For television reasons, you couldnt really fit this into a half hour as it might take that long just to wade through the numbers. The only way to make it not re-draw would be by doing the draw via computer program or RNG, but that would be subject to way more rumor and suspicion that it already is.

More importantly how about the Pistons?!?! Conference Finals may be over and done but they walk out with the #2 pick in the draft in a trade for GACK GACK Otis Thorpe 6 years ago.

Pistons fans must be pretty happy this morning.

Thanks guys ... now that I think of it ... I do remember something about Lucas when he was fired.

As for the Pistons ... as a Sixer fan who watched the series, I was not overly impressed with them. They are good but no better than the Sixers and many other Eastern Conference teams which cannot compete with the many elite teams from the West. However, if the Pistons take Darko or Carmelo ... they should be the conference favs for years to come. Since they already have Wallace and Hamilton ... maybe they could even make a trade to get a better guard. All I know is I'd love to be in their shoes right now cause as long as they don't screw it up, they should improve greatly.

Thanks Ace, this helps....cause I was having a hard time figuring why it wasnt done live.
