OXFORD, Miss. ? Ole Miss Athletics Director Pete Boone announced here Saturday at noon that Ed Orgeron, who has served as head football coach of the Rebels for the last three years, is not being retained.
?Ed Orgeron will not be returning as head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels,? Boone announced at the press conference. ?Chancellor (Robert) Khayat and I met with Coach Orgeron this morning. We thanked him for his tremendous work ethic, the energy and the commitment he gave Ole Miss.
?Coach Orgeron has made strides in many areas as a head coach, but after a total assessment of the year, we believe the program needs to move in a different direction to accomplish the goals of Ole Miss football.?
Boone said the search for a new head football coach will begin immediately.
Orgeron was 10-25 overall and a dismal 3-21 in SEC play.
This follows Bill Callahan's dismissal at Nebraska earlier today and Franphony's "resignation" yesterday from Texas A & M.

In my opinion, Orgeron was more than likely already gone before yesterday's collapse at Mississippi State. Ole Miss finished 0-8 in the SEC for the first time in 25 years.
The Rebs were up 14-0 with only 9 minutes left in the game. They had the ball 4th & 1 at the 50 yard line and Coach "O" gambled... and lost. The Bulldogs took over and scored minutes later and after a 75 yard punt return for a TD it was all tied up at 14.
Do you think Ole Miss wishes they had kept David Cutcliffe?
Cutcliffe was 44-29 with only one losing season (4-7) after which he was fired. He took the Rebs to 4 bowl games in his 6 years.
Orgeron was 10-25 overall and never won more than 4 games in a season.
