WE can win this war and thats what it is. But we must be more clever then are foes. We have all but about 5 counties in the world with us on this. We can do many things to win. Follow the money. Do sugical and well thought out operations. Use a missle or two when needed. Use-em for decoys keep them guessing. We don't have to loose alot of men and woman. We have the right kind of forces for the job. We have to turn-em lose no tieing there hands with special rules. There were no rules followed in NY or Wash. We have to make thes asses look silly to there followers. Throwing a lot of stuff into emty mountains and tents. If we must ok. But that won't do much. We have to be real clever and we can do it. We have others in the world ready to help. We may have a chance at more pieace in the world then in last 50 years. What happen in NY/Wash has stuck a blow at these asses already. The world is against them. They have little/or no support. We will win, we must win. We are smarter. GBA

I'm having a pretty hard time understanding what the GOAL is of this newly created war. I realize it's a war against terrorism, but is it feasible for a few countries to totally eradicate terrorism throughout the world. Would the death of BinLaden cause us to claim victory? If Osama Bin Laden is killed, what next? Afghanistan is only ONE country that harbors terrorists. What about Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, PLO's, etc...etc... If indeed the main objective is to eradicate terrorism from the world, then realistically, I don't EVER see an end to this situation.

You have hit the nail on the head - the rest of the world has been horrified by what has happened -I stood and watched events unfold on a small island in Greece whilst on holiday in total disbelief. Americans must believe that the rest of the world is with them and this is the key to future calm in the world - now is the chance for a world understanding but the key is not to make a martyr out of any Islamic fundamentalists as this will simply fuel their cause - the key is to get the Islamic world to turn against terrorism and fundamentalism - the possibility is there and I sincerely hope that this takes place. If Bin Laden is responsible then the worst case scenario for him is to have the rest of Islam turn against him as what he did was strictly non Islamic.
This is just my personal take on things trying to be rational which I know is difficult in trying circumstances, but having witnessed terrorism in Northern Ireland since the day I was born the worst case scenario is to make martyrs of those involved
My prayers are with all those affected and now I have said my piece I will remain quiet on this sad issue

Our task is similar to killing a building full of cockroaches. You could smoke them out and kill a bunch, but most will survive and continue to give you a problem. You could also destroy the building but surely a few will survive and continue to have a presence. Basically, either way the cockroaches will always be around unfortunately.

With the sophistication the U.S military has now it should be possible to do what djv suggests. Its all about intellegence. We need to get help from under every rock thats out there.
What I've heard is that the U.S is planning on using a special forces group from Germany to help with this "war".... Isn't that ironic.

This war can not be about egos. The armed sevices need to work together without everything being a power struggle. We also need to respect the civilians because if we piss them off they will be tomorrows terrorists.
The U.S also have to be ready for civil wars to break out in these countries. For instance.. Pakistan has a substantial Bin Laden following but the gov't is backing us. The country is poor and very volatile so what happens when the hated americans arrive?

Inner strife- Thats what most of these terrorist training ground countries have, so like Djv said we better go about this one carefully.

I would just like to say that a "kill them all mentality" makes us no better then the terrorists themselves. Hate breeds hate.

Our country WILL be a safe and peaceful place again. We can't forget what we're all about and what makes us the greatest country of them all.
I don't play favorites so my prayers are for and with everybody.
