I know this Rays team inside out. Last night was an anomaly. Archer leads the league with 10 losses.
Something is wrong with his delivery. He has no movement on his fastball and has relied very heavily on it.
He also has been walking batters at an alarming rate for him. We know the Red Sox have been down trending but come on the Rays had just come off 11 losses in a row. Sad to say but I have been waiting game after game for Archer to get thru 5 innings without getting shelled and win a well pitched game. It just hasn't happened. Where is the risk to reward tonight ? Over seems too easy to me. The books have NO FAITH in Archer opening him a PK @ home.
Tonight is the Rays 15th consecutive game against teams over .500 and they are 3-11.
Overall they are 21-37 against teams with winning records.
Archer has a 10.69 ERA (16-IP, 19-ER) in the 1st inning and a 3.43 ERA (76-IP, 29-ER) after that?his
1st-inning ERA is the highest in the AL (min. 10 starts)?has averaged 24.1 pitches in the 1st?last year, only yielded 13 ER in 34 starts in the 1st (3.44 ERA)?at home, has a 5.14 ERA (7-IP, 4-ER) in the frame compared to a 15.00 ERA over his 9 road starts. Meanwhile, the Red Sox haven?t scored in the 1st inning since June
11 and have been outscored 22-0 in the frame since then.
Also he has lost 7 starts in a row to Boston since winning his 1st. :0008
