Maybe it's just me but this day seems over-done. With all the flip-flopping of commitments, to the 'I'm taking my talents to blah, blah,blah...', the donning of the hat, etc....

Just seems a little much. I understand the excitement, I'm happy for the kids but enough of the grandstanding. Just sign your letter, whip some ass on Saturdays, then say 'look at me'. Maybe I'm just being a stick in the mud but I can't relate to this type of unwarranted hype. I would like to see a little more humility in the youth of today.

Chris Jones (top-20 prospect) is officially a Miss St Bulldog along with DeRunnya Wilson.

DE Jones gives the Bulldogs a huge boost to their 2013 recruiting class, which is ranked in the top 25 by most recruiting services. He will bolster a Mississippi State pass rush that was 99th in the nation last year, and only registered 18 sacks in 13 games.

They signed #4 OLB in country Yannick Ngakoue and get Taivon Jacobs 4* WR who had given verbal to Ohio State flips and signs with Maryland.

Agree, aside from the best of the absolute best it is just a crap-shoot whether their talents will transfer to the next level, much less if they can handle it mentally. They ran something in the atlanta paper a few days ago saying that 7 of the 22 starters for the falcons this year were 3 star or under recruits.

HUGE pick ups for MSU. Jones should make an immediate impact on the D-Line. MSU, defensively, should bring a lot more heat this year now that DC Chris Wilson is gone and Geoff Collins has taken over. He is calling this new style "Mayhem". Hopefully it causes mayhem for opposing offenses.

Wilson is a dual sport athlete. He's 6'6 220lbs, which will make him very hard to cover, especially around the EZ. He will also play basketball for MSU.

Because 98% of the kids are 3 star or under recruits . . . yet they make up only 33% of an NFL teams roster. . . .and they still run a story on it. . . .

Hawkeye is 100% right. the most overhyped aspect of the game. the attention and big deal recruiting gets is absolutely ridiculous. the highly touted guys hardly ever pan out. it is a giant waste of time really.

Bottom line, recruiting rankings are a crapshoot on an individual basis, but winning titles is directly correlated to highly ranked recruiting classes.

Kyle Rudolph and Michael Floyd were the other two 5-stars from Dayne's class. A first round pick and a second rounder as a junior. Seems very random.

You could keep finding guys that you've never heard of, but if you want to look at large amounts of data and compare it to measurable success instead of just making a judgement on feeling, you would find out that recruiting rankings are hightly indicative of success statistically.

this is a bit skewed - the SEC teams are always at the top of the recruiting rankings and since 2002 they have basically won all of the national championships - so stands to reason that "since 2002, no team has been outside of the Rivals top 12 recruitings rankings for more than 1 of the 4 years prior to winning a natty title"

I heard of each and every single one of those guys during their recruiting trail. And listened about how they were the next big thing. And absolutely NOTHING comes of it. That was just looking at one year! I dont need someones blog to tell me what I already know....maybe you do? If you have ever followed recruiting in the slightest you know it is a crapshoot. Your little articles are going to weigh 5 stars higher because there is so few of them.(and they cant even get them right most the time! :142smilie)

anyone with common sense can see that players from Florida and Texas get recruited based on where theyre from half the time.

just like Garret Gilbert the great 5 star recruit who is now after transferring to SMU, struggling to complete 50% of his passes.
