apparently every intelligence service around the world skewed the intelligence in the same manner as the administartion...because they all thought saddam had a nuclear program....to go along with his chemical and biological stockpiles....
which, btw, weren`t destroyed in front of the corrupt u.n. inspectors...yet managed to disappear......
that issue has never been reconciled...
wonder where they went?....and why saddam didn`t dismantle the chems and bio`s in front of the u.n. and the world....i think that would have helped him....don`t you?...
he went as far as to bribe u.n. officials....but,not so far as to let the inspectors have cart blanche for inspections....
instead, when they insisted on seeing certain areas and facilities,he balked...he stalled...he went so far as to kick inspectors out....
i wonder why?...he had nothing to hide...his regime was in jeopardy....why not come clean?....if he had nothing to hide?....
was he that stupid?....of course not....
he was smart enough to bribe officials...to get around the oil for food program.....
i believe that his stalling tactics gave him the time to hide or remove whatever he had...
why...if nothing was there...why not throw open the doors?....as south africa had....kazakhstan had....the ukraine...
it appeared that saddam 's goal was to get the sanctions lifted while retaining as much military power as possible....the russia, france and germany were pushing to get the bogus sanctions lifted...
he thought that the bought and paid for u.n. could run interference for him..get sanctions lifted....and he could retrieve his stockpiles when the heat was once again off....
after all...it worked for way over a decade....
maybe he didn`t have the weapons...maybe they weren`t buried in the desert...or spirited off to syria.....
the evidence...from our decimated intelligence agencies(thanks to the frank church`s and jamie gorelick`s of the world) along with those from around the world.....along with saddam`s reluctance to cooperate with u.n. resolution 1441.....pointed toward obfuscation by saddam....
was the invasion a mistake?...maybe....
reasonable people can disagree...
