Sometimes you just have to sit back and be.
Here in Broken Arrow Ok we had the big tornado May 31.
It formed 4 miles from my house over a huge empty field.
Just prior, I went outside during the lull. The lightning flashes exposed a greenish-black sky.
Their was a fairly strong wind at my back, as I looked to the south east where the TV storm chaser talked excitedly about a possible tornado forming, their was an eerie wind from my front side as well as my backside.
Found out later it was an tornadic energy feeding wind. Keep in mind this was a good 4 miles away.
I called my friend Dan who lives in affected area.
He was in a storm shelter with his family and neighbors.
It is fairly rural there, him and neighbors split the cost of a good size underground shelter.
There is an emergency storm siren at the end of his street, it did not go off.
What saved his family was a weather app on his daughters phone.
I visited his home 2 days later, police had cordoned area as there was a bazillion gawkers clogging traffic shortly afterwards.
It was my first close-up look at tornado damage, sorry I do not do pics, don't care to learn at my age.
The twister removed 60 year old huge trees out by their roots.
The root balls on some of the trees were as large as a small car.
Most of his neighbors roof was in his back yard.
Dan's concrete pillared front porch had been lifted and set back down, the pillars now at an odd angle.
Dan's roof had 3 large gaping holes.
His pastures fencing (he set it in concrete) is missing large sections.
The one really bizarre thing is a 3 foot long tree branch now cleanly sticking thru the wall of his workshop.
It as if some archer shot an arrow.
What is truly amazing thru all this carnage, not ONE of his houses many windows was broken.
Needless to say, mother nature is to be respected.
NOW, Broken Arrow water main has been damaged.
Health department news crawls closed restaurants, evacuated hospital patients and citizens are advised to boil water.
Grocery stores have a run on bottled water, people buying it by the cart load.
There was free bottled water being offered at some churches and other organizations.
Water back on line day and a half later. I let it run for awhile, it was grey and unappealing at first.
Everything ok now, time for that cup of coffee.
Stay tuned, there is a plague of locusts on the horizon.:0003
