Curious if I can get some direction as to where Vegas and/or other oddsmakers come up with lines/totals for NCAA Basketball games. Is it based on a rating of some sort? I can cap Football games so much easier and come up with a lot of guesses as to line openings in both the NFL and College football but basketball is just about impossible for me. Any hints or direction would be appreciated. Good luck to all.

Basketball is a lot tougher for me also. I'm not sure it lends itself to a number as much as football may. In 12 weeks of college football, you can pretty much bet (although most teams lay at least 1 egg) that a team will be giving its very best every time out; where with a 30 to 40 game basketball season that's just not going to happen, to many ups and downs. I think there's just a lot more psychology in basketball than football, and as such, harder to cap (at least for me).

If you line up the odds with the KenPom ratings, especially early in the season, and factor in home court you will see that they mirror each other very closely.

It?s insane just how many totals come within 1-2-3 points of the set number. And there are a lot of games that the spread is within a point or two also. Thanks for the response.
