I was making sure I could post a pic.
Minority canidates,
Local Radio-Heads are going nuts about the new NFL hiring regulations. It seems that in an attempt to get more minorites in the coaching ranks, all NFL culbs must interview a minority canidate. My first thought is OK, if those are the rules just follow them. What is the worst that can happen? A minority will get a free trip to (insert city here with a job) and is told no thank you?
I can see that being a "token" might be sad but the stratiegy is to get these guys known by the owners and maybe when the next job opens up they will be suggested to the next owner.
I agree this is a dumb rule. But why didn't the Lions just interview someone? It would only of taken a day and they would of advoided any media backlash.

From what i understand Millen called about 3 minority candidates to arrange appointments for interviews. None of the minority candidates wanted to interview for the job because they knew that Detroit was after Mariucci from the moment he left SF. They knew it was a waste of time.

This stupid rule is gonna be another affirmitive action backfire.A few black leaders have blackmailed their way into NFL hiring policies so they can try and show how much power they have.This is America,and I dont think it is right to tell the OWNER of a company that he MUST interview at least 3 black coaches or he will get fined or lose draft picks.............excuse me....he OWNS this team.It is his right to decide who he wants to run HIS team.And why does he not have to interview LATINO coaches?????
But now Rev Jesse and Johnie Cockroach want the NFL to take issue with Detroit....What could Detroit have done different???They asked 3 black coaches to come interview and they all turned them down.This was a chance to interview for a head coaching job in the NFL and they just said ...NO THANKS.Well Detroit goes ahead and hires the most qualified man for the job with Marucci and now they may get in trouble for doing this without having face to face interviews with 3 black coaches.I say if you ask 3 to come and they turn you down then you've hit your quota and its time to move on to the serious business of hiring your next coach.Its sad that these types of shakedown go on in this great country.But this is yet another example of affirmitive action at its best.Or should I say worse:shrug:

NFL owners hire who they want and must be forced to go along with what are fair hiring practices in USA.

First of all, if one of the three coaches were the more qualified then they certainly should have at least shown up for an interview. I guess if they aren't offered teh job before they interview then they have no reason to bother going. How do you expect one to find out who the best qualified person is if you don't have the opportunity to investigate fully.....You may call it racist all you want, but the truth is people go into business for themselves to make money. It's tough enough to make it as it is, let alone when someone else is telling you who you have to put in charge of your organization......Just like nobody cared that there were an overwhelming number of blacks in the military grabbing easy money paychecks until there was an actual possibility of war. Hmmmm, let's see, what is ones job discription if he/she is a member of the armed services??????? Thank you very much. Now if prior to there being talks of war, they would have restricted the number of blacks allowed to enlist, then all hell would have broken loose.....Is this country completely fair when it comes to peoples race? Detroit didnt make any offers. They just offered interviews. There is a big differance. And you have to do it before you hire Mariouchi.

Steve Marriuci is a proven winner with a ring. His records and credentials are darn near unmatched in todays NFL and you think that the Detroit Lions owner should be forced to sit in front of an unproven, no ring having, or never been head coach before grown black man...put on a smile and feign interest in this man simply because of his skin color? I agree that if you have a guy who is as highly regarded as Mariuchi & you are looking to get your team going you have to sign Mariuchi. Also Detroit has a couple of young QB's, Mariuchi has shown that he can improve a QB's play.
FDC, I don't know whay ring your talking about that Mariuchi has, but it's not a SuperBowl ring as a head coach.
If Detroit is being investigated, then Dallas should be investigated. All Jones did was talk to Dennis Green by phone for a few minutes. But Jones had the opportunity to hire, probably the most respected football coach in the last 20 years, to help get his team back to respectability, so he hired Parcells.He did the best for his company, like everyone else would do.
If anyone should be investigated it should be SF. By all the reports that I read the owner liked Cottrell the best. But he was talked out of hiring Cottrell by Donahue.Erickson is Donahue's man. Erickson, may be a good college coach, but he was mediocre NFL head coach.By NFL guidelines,Cottrell should have been hired because he was the better candidate.

The only thing I know is that the NFL is a group of very rich white men except for a few teams I think. These guys arent used to anyone telling them what they have to do to be fair.
Not to give everyone a chance at any job in the USA is not right.
Hiring the new Coach in Detroit and announceing it was thumbing their noses at the governing body. Something had to be done. This could not be left that way.
If we have to force these NFL owners to do what every other business owner has to do (or most of us who care about the people they hire and work with) then so be it.
