How does that go??? Live by the 3, die by the 3. Illinois simply shot way too many 3's. Carolina had a much more balanced attack.
Of course it came down to a lot more than that. Like others have said, when Felton got 2 fouls, attack him.
I have seen Carolina play without him. It can be downright ugly at times. Felton got a cheap 3rd (dumb foul though) and when he got his 4th, as close as it was, I was extremely worried.
Illinois did have a guy that was draining 15-footers like crazy. Why not try to tie the score on that.
But, they did get good looks down the stretch.
The line is too close and I've been wanting them to move it back for years. But it does make it tempting to go for the 3. Especially since UNC had the size advantage.
They made a lot of 3's in the comeback. They made them b/c they were wide open. And they were wide open b/c of illegal screens.
So, while I'm at it, just a little more bitching about the refs.
Cheap fouls on Felton and Augustine. Dee Brown was holding the whole night and not many calls. Carolina seemed to hit guy's arms on 3-pter's and was never called.
Illinois made a great comeback and got good looks at 3's at the end to try to take the lead and then to tie. Just missed them.
Overall, what I'm saying is that I'd rather have a balanced team, than one that shoots nothing but 3-pointers.

Great statement. Can't blame the refs, but they did have a bad game. I watched bits and pieces of the game again today and honestly, I think NC got away with about 5 fouls in the first half. That may not have changed the outcome, but still its a matter of who is shooting FT's. Illinois tied it with over 2 mins left and still couldn't take advantage. Overall though a great year, I can't complain. I never thought Illinois would make it this far.
