Congratulations to G-CHS alum and current Mizzou pitcher Kyle Gibson for being drafted in the first round of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft by the Minnesota Twins.
There was a big draft party over at Gibby's house tonight and I was thrilled to be invited and get to experience this awesome evening with him and our friends.
All season long Gibby was a projected top 5 draft pick but less than two weeks ago in the NCAA Regional at Ole Miss his fastball wasn't as fast as it had been (normally 93 mph couldn't throw over 83). After an MRI on his throwing arm it was determined that he had some damage and his stock dropped pretty quickly. The Twins have decided that he is going to be ok and as Harold Reynolds said tonight if he can bounce back from surgery he will be the steal of the first round.
Congrats Gibby... not only are you one helluva ball player, you are an even better person.
