Congratulations to G-CHS alum and current Mizzou pitcher Kyle Gibson for being drafted in the first round of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft by the Minnesota Twins.

There was a big draft party over at Gibby's house tonight and I was thrilled to be invited and get to experience this awesome evening with him and our friends.

All season long Gibby was a projected top 5 draft pick but less than two weeks ago in the NCAA Regional at Ole Miss his fastball wasn't as fast as it had been (normally 93 mph couldn't throw over 83). After an MRI on his throwing arm it was determined that he had some damage and his stock dropped pretty quickly. The Twins have decided that he is going to be ok and as Harold Reynolds said tonight if he can bounce back from surgery he will be the steal of the first round.

Congrats Gibby... not only are you one helluva ball player, you are an even better person.

I do look good in Mizzou colors, but won't be trading in my Crimson and White anytime soon. :SIB

Here is a link to the Twins site and an article on Kyle: http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090609&content_id=5229068&vkey=news_min&fext=.jsp&c_id=min

Here is Kyle with his family and girlfriend watching the draft

I had Gibby autograph an old style Cracker Jack box for me. Pretty cool I think.

Now THAT's a great combo - Mizzou and the Twins! Just think, if all goes well for him, he can move up quickly in a good farm system, known for producing good pitching, have a couple good years at the new stadium, and then sign with the Bosox or Yankees for the big money.

Congrats to all there, and we're glad to have ya, kid! :)

Is that his sister or his girlfriend/wife behind him? She'll fit right in up here in blonde-land...

Seriously, talk about all-American pictures there. I can go 3 weeks without seeing that many blondies.

Great story though. Whether or not he makes it big, being selected in the first round guarantees 7figure money. So his talent and hard work has already paid off.

Guy that is from my neck of the woods. Never had 1 on 1 convo's or anything but always love seeing the kids from the area "make it" so to speak.

This is my cousin Lisa's son. He was recently called up from High-A ball to AA New Britain in the Eastern League.
In the 2007 season he pitched for Beloit in the Midwest League. Got to see him pitch a few times in Beloit as well as once here in town. Next year AAA ball and then the Opening Day pitcher for the Twins in 2011...:00hour

LOL, I wish I could work out a deal for him and get a small percentage, LOL. Sounds like it's up in the air if he signs or not. If not he goes back to Mizzou for his senior year. This can be good or bad... if he has another stellar season and stays healthy he can expect to be a top 5 pick. BUT... bad season, injuries... would rather not even think of that.
