Looks like Sen. Lott is a little behind the times of the rest of the country. You can always tell a bad story teller when he is pushed to come clean. GOP leader? Not for long if the Republicans are smart. They always said Gore was stiff as a rock. You watched any of Sen Lott reactions latley. You talk about a stiff. Bush would be smart to get as much distance from this guy that he can.

Disagree

Disagree

Lott is right in line with the general beliefs of that party. The idiot was suppose to keep his big mouth shut. The only thing good about Lott is that he is preventing an even bigger biggot and criminal, McConnell, from taking over leadership of the senate.

how come when democrats support something Al Sharpton says there is no frenzy about racism?...there is a huge double standard here.....

no one knows Lott's views on racism......context was put into his words.....granted, the guy does have a history of some poor stances on race from his fraternity days, but who are people to crucify a guy for a position he once took 35 years ago......

here he was trying to honor a guy at his 100th birthday party....describing one of the most significant events in the guy's life, and he gets meaning put into his words.....i seriously doubt, and i think everyone else does too, that he meant anything racial by it....

and since Eddie seems to know exactly what the conservatives think about race, and seems to know that all Republicans are racists....i just wonder how he is so positive about this "racist mindset".....Eddie -- can you judge a person's heart? are you about to put yourself in that position?

the feeding frenzy upon this poor guy is pathetic.....here we are, having monster issues in this day and age, and all anyone can worry about is some comment.....and the "thought police" have to interpret what that comment meant.....unbelievable how stupid and weak many people have become.....come on citizens....lets get tough!! What do you think other countries think of this??? They (example North Korea) now try to capitalize on this sentiment -- case in point -- James Bond movie is now being portrated as racist against them.....since when has this mentality started and why did it start? Did the Ruskies think movies about US vs Russia were racist/culturally insensitive against them in the Cold War? Just think what kind of ammo. that could have been if Americans gave in to this nonsense back then?

GET TOUGH AMERICANS........YOU ARE A NATION OF FIGHTERS......THATS WHAT MAKES YOU GREAT.....THAT IS HOW WE ARE GOING TO SURVIVE IN THIS DAY AND AGE

and thats not necessarily meaning we have to go fight people in war....we need to demonstrate our strength instead of all this ridiculous bickering to the world.......solidarity instead of devisiveness.....and this political correct mindset -- all it does is attempt to promote hatred amongst our peoples.....and i am sick and tired of it......

***ummm, wild guess here, but because he's not an elected official, representing the US and the US congress. I remember there being quite an uproar when Jesse Jackson referred to NYC as Hymietown.

no one knows Lott's views on racism......context was put into his words.....granted, the guy does have a history of some poor stances on race from his fraternity days, but who are people to crucify a guy for a position he once took 35 years ago......

***context was not put into his words, and he has said as much. he hasn't tried to explain what he meant. he's apologized for it, basically admitting, which you seem incapable of doing, that he might have actually screwed up. And his racial policies did not stop 35 years ago. His record in congress shows it pretty clearly.

here he was trying to honor a guy at his 100th birthday party....describing one of the most significant events in the guy's life, and he gets meaning put into his words.....i seriously doubt, and i think everyone else does too, that he meant anything racial by it....

***oh, do you think he meant we'd be better off today if a red head was elected? he meant it like it came out, we'd be better off if a segregationist won. Personally, I thought it was funny because it's such an absurd thing to say that I didn't think anyone would take him seriously.

and since Eddie seems to know exactly what the conservatives think about race, and seems to know that all Republicans are racists....i just wonder how he is so positive about this "racist mindset".....Eddie -- can you judge a person's heart? are you about to put yourself in that position?

***Oh, this is great. The people out to get Trent Lott are the ones promoting divisiveness and hatred amongst our people. That's an interesting take on it. Where did I get this wild notion that people who think we'd be better off with a SEGREGATIONIST president are the ones promoting DEVISIVENESS?

***You can offer this guy all the support you want Dr. Freeze, but you're about the only republican in the country that's doing it. The president sure as shit ain't supporting him.

A leader of a major political party should not voice this type of beliefs. He should not be the majority leader of the senate. But it is not only the liberal dem. who are asking for his ouster, but some conservative rep. asking him to step down also.

The republicans are not the only ones who have stupid mouths. Robert Byrd, who was a member of the KKK in his earlier days, used the word "nigger" when referring to some people. Jessie Jackson, when he was running for president in 1988, referred to NY as "hymie" town during the democratic primary.

My point is that both parties have their biggots, & they should not be given a public platform to voice these hideous beliefs.

I don't necessarily agree, AR.

If a bigot runs for office and is elected by his consituents, he should be able to stay there. And if the repubs or dems want him to be their house leader, that's their prerogative, too.

If the US people really are against these types of beliefs, then they either won't elect the bigot, or they won't elect people who support the bigot.

a bigot should certainly be able to voice his opinion, though. But, just as fairly, people should be able to raise a fuss about him stepping down if they want to.

AR182 believe you are correct both sides can take credit for some strange things they have said or done. What is happening here his own party much much more then any dem's are kicking his butt hard. I see nothing else for him to do but give up the leader ship. He has two Strong Reb's banging him hard. And of course it's becasue they want that leadership role. Where do we as voters come in. If only we would here more about a mans heart when were voting we could make some better calls. Another thing that comes to mind is. We need to be kicking these guys out office after they been there 10/12 years. This going to W-DC and staying for ever causes problems of it's own. We make sure the Pres is 8 years and out. We should think about our other elected officals. Look are you telling me a guy over 90 years of age that needed his staff to do all his work should keep on getting elected. Were they telling us no one avaliable worth his or her salt was able to run for his office. Why do you think most companies want us out of there hair no later then age 68.

Lott is just trying to save his ass by apologizing....his apology is as insincere as Bill Clinton's.....only after waiting a few days to weigh his options did he figure out what to do next....

and the reason he waited i think, is because he didn't intend for his remarks to be race-oriented.....he was dumbfounded by the reaction....could call a cloud in the sky white or dark these days and people would create racial connotations out of that....i am not defending this guy's past -- notably the fraternity fiasco -- but that is 35 years ago....we are in the present now....and i don't think he meant anything racially oriented in his remarks....and if he really didn't, he shoudl not apologize -- that cheapens his genuity -- which after he has now done, loses respect from me.....

republicans are calling for his head because they want individual power AND for political reasons.....

they would assassinate Jesus Christ again if it meant more power.....thats how it goes....

i maintain that i do not think Lott meant anything racial.....i don't know how you could think he did....he was trying to honor old man Thurmond in the best way he knew how.....simple as that.....

his other actions in congress such as opposing "affirmative action/reverse discrimination" are not necessarily too much out of mainstream either.....most people believe where i am from that opportunity should be based on merit not on the color of your skin....

Freeze:

For years, years, all we heard from your side of the aisle was how immoral Clinton was. For Gods sake we are still hearing it.(refer to recent thread by Blitz on Clinton). You, Blitz, 65 and many others on this board seem to be real good at throwing stones but, not to good at receiving them.

I'll take a President who lied about a bj from a fat jewish girl any day of the week over the senior senator from Mississippi who indicates that this society would be better off segregated. Whats more immoral my conservative friends, lying about sex or believing races should be seperated. You know what I really think my good doctor, I think you, "in your heart" agree with the majority leader.

The good old days and the grand old party. Next time why don't you start a thread entitled "Whites Only". Although I'm as white as that porch light in front of your trailor, I won't post on that thread in order to let you Blitz, 65 and others who maintain your pick-up truck mentality, keystroke (and circle jerk) away with your words of wisdom, patriotism and other garbage.

I wish I could say you all are funny. The reality is that you are scarry. Honoring a man on his 100th birthday. Monster issue of the day. Your kind continue to bring up Clinton. God what two-faced hypocritical bigots you all are. You are a total joke.

Some time a guys just better off saying. Hey old timer happy birthday I really love you. Lott has to watch every word now.
Doc you brought up affirmative action and his stand there. Not sure if you saw on BET TV last night. He changed his mind. Said it belongs and should be watched for adding improvements. Not sure what that is but is not against it anymore. He should just shut up and let everyone else blow there smoke. Then on January 6th have at it with his fellow senators.

my dear quack:

you mean libel. libel is written word, slander is oral. by the way, truth is a defense to both.

i was going to ask you what type of doctor you claim to be, other than which is apparent from your posts. That is a spin doctor.

you've got potential to be the type of lawyer that i despise the most, that is one who twists and spins facts to fit their liking. you are very good at that.

now he is just showing his hypocritical colors....now a proponent for affirmative action? good grief....thats like Hillary Clinton coming out and saying she is pro-life....

if you don't stand for something, you don't stand for anything.....

I saw parts of the BET interview & I thought Lott came off looking like a fool. he said everything possible to show that he is not a racist. As Imus said this morning, "Lott would agree to have a Mike Tyson day if he thought it would show that he is not a racist".

I hear a few people say that Lott was just toasting an old man & that he is not a racist. I may agree with that if it happened just once, but he is on record of saying similar remarks two other times. So there is a pattern to this type of thinking.

Shrimp,

I agree with you that if a bigot runs for office & wins he should stay in office. But if this person is a known bigot I think his fellow senator's or congressman owe to the American people, who elected them to office, to not put him in a position of power.

The Democrats will be sorry. Now that Lott has acted like an ignorant liberal the Republicans will have no choice but to put a die hard right winger in their. Lott was the bi partisan leader the Democrats will be wishing for in about 2 months.

I think it's funny, they try and crucify a guy for a statement taken out of context. How intelligent was that, Lott was the one guy that went out of his way to work with both party's.

Have you ever heard the saying, Be careful what you ask for you just might get it! Republicans will get the last laugh on this one.

It seems to me like there are quite a few Republicans calling him out as well. It's a far cry from simply a Democrat attack.

Why are the Republicans calling him out? He is running around putting his mug on BET acting like a Liberal. He should of apologized and if that wasn't good enough then too bad.

Stewy he's acting like a liberal? No really more like a guy who had hoof and mouth disease. Trying to save his ass is to me like someone trying to save his ass. Sorry don't make him a liberal. But becareful what you ask for. Anyone that can change astory or a position as fast as he can. When they make him step down he just may switch parties. He seems to me a switch-en on lots of thinks last few days. Problem with a true old Politician. And it dont matter witch party. They just feal so much better if there mouth is open and a-going.
