52-47 (+16.38)
Akron -3 @ Buffalo
Seems easy right ? The 11-2 Zips invade Buffalo that was decimated by the arrest and booting off the team of the MACs best player, loss of their coach and transfer of Shannon Evans.
I'm not so sure. If you dig behind the obvious stuff and watch these teams, as I have done, this may not be easy as it looks. Akron's success has been bolstered by a really, really poor schedule. The last I looked they were around #310 out of 351 teams in strength of schedule. They have demonstrated a tendency to play to the level of their opposition as evidenced in their last game when they had to play very hard to beat freaking Lipscomb. The Zips are banged up too. Starting center Forsythe has been rested the last week to try to mend a bad ankle and 6th man Kretzer has been battling concussion symptoms. I expect them to go tonight but that is by no means official and I probably won't know for sure until pregame warmups.
It's still a game that on paper the Zips should win but I've seen much better Akron teams get beat in that building. I find myself without the will to lay the 3 on the road.
What I do like is the total. Akron is the best 3 point shooting team in the conference and Buffalo is rock bottom in scoring defense. On the other side of the floor Akron's guards can't stay in front of anybody and lesser guards than Buffalo's Bearden and Skeete have been getting to the hole with ease. I favor the over tonight.
Kent State -1 @ W Mich
In the other game I just can't see Kent State jumping out and picking up many conference road wins. God knows that W Mich is pretty bad and the preseason loss of one of the MAC's best 2 or 3 players, Tava, was a huge blow. Still, getting the home side at even on the ML has some appeal.
