The wife finally is about to get offered the position she has always wanted. Next week she will be called in and salary will be discussed..and here is the problem. She will be going from a hourly position to salary. She makes a great wage yearly now with the overtime. She knows the offer wont be this high. We figured out her hourly times 52 without overtime and figure they will beat this amount. No problem there. Is there any negotiating room? (I.E. vacation) Can you negotiate anything else? She already has a set figure that she will not accept for pay so does she hold any cards or do you think it might be a take it or leave it offer?

She wants the position but will not sell herself short to get it.

as a manager, she will work overtime with no extra pay, and is expected too, salaried employees share a whole different set of rules than hourly emps.take an average of her OT from last yr.add that to her offered salary, plus a little more for mangmnt. pay.SHE SHOULD MAKE MORE, MANY MORE RESPONSIBILITYS, ITS NOT JUST ALL ABOUT THE ----TITLE-

In most companies everything is negotiable. I get extra vac, expense account and a lot of freedom. If I need to do something I just go and do it no question asked within reason. If I want go to stuff at my kids school and just things you want to be at and disappear as I call it no problem. I also put a lot of time in after hours so it a balance but everything is negotiable if handle properly.

Have her discuss 'comp' time with them. Lots of management positions will not recognize this, but some will. That can really add up so it's worth asking.

Thanks for the info. It gave her some ideas on what to do. She knows the responsibility will be greater and she says she is ready for it.

This is something she has been working towards. She took accelerated classes (company paid 100%)just to get an assoc degree because she knew she could never get the position without one. She is going to go for her Bach. degree just because she wants to shoot higher.

Everything is negotiable, more important than what is negotiated is how it's negotiated. Being able to quickly access your opponent than be able to craft your pitch and negotiating style accordingly (frankly it is a sales pitch). Always back up demands with bullet points of achievement and why you deserve x amt, y benefits etc. Google Herb Cohen, I have had the opportunity to meet him a couple of times and have read all of his books - they guy is a master.

Quick update..she got the offer today and accepted it. The offer was more than she was expecting.

We had went thru scenerios on what might be said and her answers but the interview never got that far. They did all the talking and kept telling her why they wanted her to take it.

She came home today telling me I had to call her boss-lady now. I will be more than happy to do that because the garage needs a few more tools. :grins: :grins:
