SEATTLE MARINERS +125 - No one could have imagined Carlos Silva being this big of a favorite over Joel Pineiro before this season started, but Silva is off to a 5-0 start with a 3.43 ERA while Pineiro is struggling along at 1-4 with a whopping 7.60 ERA. However, this is simply a case where I feel that one pitcher has been pitching over his head and the other has been underachieving, and I see some value at this price with the Mariners. This is a pitching rematch from last Wednesday, when Silva and the Twins bested Seattle 5-1. It should be pointed out though that only 3 of the runs charged to Pineiro were earned, and he has now recorded 5 Quality Starts in 7 career starts vs. Minnesota. Also, I am a believer in the ?pitcher rematch theory?, that states that when there is a rematch of starting pitchers in back-to-back starts, to play the losing pitcher in the first meeting the second time around. The logic here is that Major League batters know how to adjust after facing a pitcher that pitched well against them if they face him again soon thereafter, while a pitcher that struggled vs. an opponent also makes adjustments and usually improves the next time he faces them. Finally, it is also worth noting that the Mariners are 72-31, 69.9% in their last 103 road games on artificial turf, which in itself makes them a live dog here.
