Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock wasted no time in proclaiming Steve Mason as his starter for Friday night's game against the Montreal Canadiens.

Mason yielded four goals in his NHL debut, but played well over the final 17 minutes as the Jackets rallied for a 5-4 win over the Oilers on Wednesday night.

It promises to be a special night for Mason, who will have his parents in attendance ...TSN is reporting the Canadiens will start Jaroslav Halak in goal on Friday night.

Hitchcock was pleased with how Mason kept his cool after allowing the two quick goals in the third period.

-- The coach said Norrena (groin), who did not take part in Thursday's optional, will serve again as the backup.

-- Defenseman Rostislav Klesla (wrist) will be a game-time decision, Hitchcock said.
