Hey fellas, I'm a little green to this board, but it suprises me that no one is talking much about the whole Maurice Clarett ordeal in Columbus.

Is this kid gonna play? Anyone have any more insight other than what the media is getting?

Same goes for Marlin Jackson at Michigan. I saw someone had a post on this incident but haven't heard much more.....

Kinda ironic that the preseason off and def players of the year in the BigTen are in a little hot water.

I heard today on ESPN Radio that Joey Harris, Purdue's leading rusher last season is awaiting word to see if he is academically eligible for the season.

He had to take 3 classes in summer school and get a b average to be eligible. ESPN's Dan Davis reported that he received a C in one class...a B in another and is awaiting word on the final class where he would effectively need an A to get is B average.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan defensive back Marlin Jackson pleaded guilty to aggravated assault Wednesday in a plea agreement with Washtenaw County prosecutors.

The preseason Big Ten defensive player of the year was accused of striking a man in the right eye with a bottle during a party.

In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped a charge of felonious assault, which carried a sentence of up to four years in jail, Assistant Prosecutor Paul Barnett said.

Aggravated assault is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Sentencing is set for Sept. 11.

"I'm very relieved to get this over with. I never struck a man with a bottle and I'm sorry this whole situation did happen," Jackson said after Wednesday's court hearing. "I punched a man and I'm sorry for that and I hope he's all right."

Prosecutors filed a warrant July 31 accusing Jackson of assaulting Shahin Farokahrany during a June 1 house party.

Michigan coach Lloyd Carr had no immediate comment on Wednesday's developments in Jackson's case. Carr has said the allegations are serious and that the facts will determine what happens to the star player.

Michigan opens its season Aug. 30 at home against Central Michigan.

Jackson had 98 tackles and six interceptions in his first two years with the Wolverines and was a second-team All-American last year.

Purdue's top running back ruled academically ineligible

August 14, 2003
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) -- Purdue running back Joey Harris was ruled academically ineligible for his senior season.

Harris, the Boilermakers' leading rusher with more than 1,100 yards last season, needed to average a B in three summer school classes to remain eligible, Purdue sports information director Tom Schott said Thursday.

Sophomore Brandon Jones, who rushed for nearly 700 yards last year, will likely replace Harris.

``We just heard the news last night, so I think that not everybody is over the initial disappointment,'' Jones said. ``Obviously, we'd love to have Joey back this year, but things didn't happen that way. We just have to get over it and move on.''

Harris did not attend the team's media day event Thursday.
