I kind of wanted to get some other thoughts on this game: Hou/Jax.

I've always debated on whether to bet on games that involve two teams that are playing for absolutely no playoff hopes. 5-7 versus 3-9. Houston has actually had some quality wins, beating Indy, Carloina, an Miami. They also beat Jacksonville 24-20 back on Sept 28th. Jax, as we all know, beat Tampa last week, 17-10. They only have two other wins, beating hapless SD and Indy. So the two teams do have something in common, beating Indy.

I really think these two teams will be pretty good in the near future. But this week, I think we are looking at two teams heading in opposite directions.

Houston is riddled with injuries and Jax is coming off a big win, with a QB gaining lots of momentum and confidence. Davis and Carr are questionable, so fill-ins could be Hollings and Ragone. Davis has been the bright spot for the Texans, but even if he does play, Jax run defense is stout, only giving up 85 ypg. Carr &/or Ragone will be relied on and Jax pass defense is ok, giving up 217 ypg, good enough for middle of the AFC pack. On the other hand, Houston?s defense is one of the poorest in the AFC, giving up 245 ypg passing and 134 ypg rushing.

For Jacksonville, Taylor is having a great year, and I think he will thrive this week. He is topped the 1000 yard mark and is heading towards 1500. Leftwich has found his confidence through Jimmy Smith and Troy Edwards, both combing for over 1000 yards receiving. But the key with the Jaguars is their defense, as stated above.

So what does all this tell me? Vegas has made a 3-9 team a 6 point favorite and I think this is a good number. I believe they will jump out on top and use Taylor in the second half to hold the lead. IF Ragone does start, this could be a blowout. Rookies in their first games usually do not do well.

I haven?t made a final decision, but I don?t want to wait to long and have the number climb to 7. Any thoughts or comments are welcome. As I said before, betting on teams with no playoff hopes is tough to call.

Later and good luck.
