To say this has been a week of ups and downs would be an understatement. Three days ago, I was down $3,000 for this week ($6,000 in last ten days). To me, that's a staggering loss. I was contemplating reducing my standard wager down to $200 and playing out the cold streak.

Then, one afternoon I came to the Message Forum and read NDNFAN's analysis of a baseball game (Oakland-Seattle, I think it was). His breakdown of the game was about as good as anything I've read here on this forum (which is really saying something because there is a lot of talent here). I decided to step up my bet becaise the evidence seemed so compelling. NDNFAN won the bet. I won $500.

The next day, NDNFAN touted San Diego and the New York Mets. I layed off the Mets because of some valid counterarguments, but played the Padres. Of course, both the Mets and Padres both won.

NDNFAN put me $1,000 to the good.

This morning, the first thing I did was come to the forum and see, pray tell, if NDNFAN had any plays for today. He had five plays.

Hmmmm. Tough to bet the 'dog Giants, so instead of a $500 play, I put them down for $300. $500 each on the Phils, ChiSox, OV KC and UN TOR. NDNFAN went 4-1 on the day......good for another $1415.

So, NDNFAN has made me $2415 in three days.

I've been around long enough to give credit where it's due. NDNFAN, next time I see you dinner and drinks are on me. In fact, if you send me your mailing address -- I send along a complimentary bottle of your favorite beverage. You name it.

Nolan.....just wanna say thanks for the kind words.

Everyone hits losing skids here and there. I had a bad run right before Memorial Day where it seemed like the bad breaks just wouldn't end, whether it be errors leading to big innings, bad calls, or simply things not playing out like you thought, I just decided I had to take a few days off. It's bad enough when you're losing your own money, but it's even a worse feeling when you know you have close friends or even strangers that are coattailing the plays.

I'm Always trying figure ways to fine tune my baseball capping. I also try to get most of my capping done a day ahead of time...allows the advantage some early lines in certain situations plus I like to think it keeps me a little sharper by not forcing a play where I don't have everything scoped. Have a goal of about 60+ Units for the baseball season playing 2.5% of my bankroll(1 unit) per play, while occassionally laying 2 units. So I'm a little ahead of pace.

But just wanted to also say that I always enjoy reading your columns. Especially your poker ones.

Speaking of which, are there still plans on getting the book on Stu Ungar published? Something I've been looking forward to.

Again, thanks for the comments.....Best of luck to you.

I, for one, am pretty hesitant to go against any of NDNFAN's plays. Besides the fact that a lot of them win is what Nolan brought up and that's the fact that NDNFAN almost always offers a reasoning behind his plays, and it's definately solid reasoning at that! Nice job and here's hoping for continued success :)

Spock:

I'll get to the e-mails today and write a new report for tomorrow. Lot's of catching up to do.

Regarding NDNFAN -- one thing I learned from public handicapping, especially when I had a good run in the NFL is that you will be revered while you win, but when the losses come, people tend to deserve the sinking ship like rats. One thing I like to base my plays on is REASONING. When I read a convincing argument and a post that makes me think of things I did not know or never considered, that qualifies as a reason to play the game most of the time. If the game ends up losing, that's just a bad break.

So the point is -- we know the losses will come. What is important is to maintain a steady approach and continue to consistently cap the games to the best of your ability. In poker, there is a saying that also applies to sports betting -- "MANAGE YOUR LOSSES, THE WINS WILL TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES."

What this means is,m we know losses will come. Losing streaks are inevitable. The key is to not let them destroy you. Move ahead and the wins wil eventually come and you wil end up a winner -- assuming sound methodology. And from what I have seen NDNFAN has some really sound methods he uses.
