from DodgerBlue:
The start is Hernandez?s first of his career and third overall game with the Marlins. He last pitched Sunday, throwing one inning of relief and allowing a run to the Atlanta Braves. Hernandez made his MLB debut against the Braves three days prior, with two shutout innings.
During his time with High-A Jupiter and Double-A Jacksonville this season, Hernandez went a combined 0-1 with a 4.80 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in four starts. The rookie right-hander had 15 strikeouts but issued eight walks and allowed five home runs in 15 innings.
Albeit in an extremely small sample size (three innings), Hernandez has yet to issue a walk or surrender a home run with the Marlins. By that same token, he has just one strikeout.

Hernandez is set to make his first MLB start after allowing one run in three innings out of the Marlins? bullpen since receiving a promotion from Double-A Jacksonville. The 23-year-old owns a 3.37 ERA in 400 1/3 innings at the Minor League level.
Hernandez was a Rule 5 Draft pick in December from the Astros. The 23-year-old entered the season not having pitched higher than Class A Advanced. But he did make two rehab starts recently for Double-A Jacksonville, after he opened the season on the disabled list due to a tooth infection. During his recovery, he suffered a setback when he split a fingernail.
"Probably the No. 1 thing for me was his poise," Marlins bench coach Tim Wallach said. "As young as he is, he didn't look intimidated whatsoever in Spring Training. I realize it's spring, but you see a lot of guys come in their first spring, and they just knock themselves, and you can kind of see a little tentativeness. He didn't show that at all."
Hernandez has a similar profile to Cortes [A finesse pitcher who lacks a plus pitch but mixes his offerings well and fills the strike zone], with his polish standing out more than his average stuff. He went 5-5 with a 3.68 ERA in 18 games (13 starts), mostly in high Class A, with an 88/22 K/BB ratio in 73 1/3 innings.
Hernandez was selected off the Astros' roster. The 22-year-old from Venezuela combined for a 5-5 record with a 3.68 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 73 1/3 innings between Rookie-level and Class A Advanced in 2017. ..Stats here.
