SOME OF YOU GUYS PROBABLY HAVE COACHED ON SOME LEVEL OF FOOTBALL OR HAVE CLOSE FRIENDS WHO HAVE OR STILL DO. I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED WHEN I SEE PLAYERS ON SPECIALTY TEAMS COMMIT BONEHEAD PLAYS IN PANIC SITUATIONS, DO COACHES EVER WALK UP TO THEM BEFORE THE PLAY AND SAY THINGS LIKE ,"IF IT'S A BAD SNAP OR YOU MISHANDLE IT, JUST FALL ON THE BALL. THEY STILL HAVE TO KICK A LONG FIELD GOAL TO BEAT US."?........ 1ST AND 3RD BASE COACHES IN BASEBALL ON ALL LEVELS WALK OVER AND TELL RUNNERS WHAT THE 'GAME" SITUATION IS....JUST WONDERING. THANKS FOR ANY INPUT.

Surely it is discussed. Easier said than done though when it is all out jailbreak with 11 crazy individuals bearing down on you.

Another factor here is probably limited experience on part of Australian punter.

WHICH IS MY POINT......MOST OF US HAVE PROBABLY COACHED 3RD BASE IN LITTLE LEAGUE OR AN ADULT LEAGUE EVEN AND HAVE TOLD A RUNNER "ON A FLY BALL TAG UP" AND SUDDENLY SEE THE RUNNER 1/2 DOWN THE LINE NO MATTER WHAT THEIR PLAYING EXPERIENCE IS.........I WAS ALWAYS JUST CURIOUS WHEN I SEE THESE TYPE SITUATIONS HAPPEN..OF COURSE, WE SEE BLOCKING IN THE BACK ON EVERY PUNT RETURN AT EVERY LEVEL ALSO

Sure if time permits, in a game and no timeouts they don't have time to go over scenarios.
It's more about practicing situational football. These are things that are, or should be, covered and stressed in practices. During a game there is a lot going on so the head coach has to rely on assistants to provide some of this to the players.
Like you said though you can tell players, kids especially, hey do this don't do that but in a moments notice it's a reaction thing for them.

good coach's always teach...this..

each and every player on any field of competition..

What are my responsibilities when I touch the ball..every option should automatically pass thru your brain..

and they do if you do it everyday in practice..

should be second nature...

what are my responsibilities on each and every play..

every snap..every pitch...every serve...every at bat..

practice..practice..practice...

This particular situation....what the punter should do on a bad snap.....is WHY you call a timeout! Or if a timeout is called by your opponent, this is the first thing you should talk about. A blocked punt, returned for a TD is basically the ONLY way you can lose, because I'm sure he was going to punt the ball out of bounds. I am reasonably CERTAIN the coaches told the punter the situation and what to do on a bad snap (just cover the ball, because they can't kick a field goal from here), if they didn't, then that's just piss-poor coaching. But just because you told your player what to do, they don't always follow through.

Although I'm not a Michigan fan, in fact I'm the direct opposite, I still feel bad for the players that played their hearts out for 4 quarters, only to lose that way. But such is football and such is life!

GOOD INPUT ON HERE. I AGREE WITH ALL AND NONE UNEXPECTED.......IT'S JUST AFTER SEEING SITUATIONS LIKE THIS AND WITH MULTIPLE CAMERA SHOTS AT GAMES, YOU'D SEE AN ASSISTANT COACH OR A PLAYER LEAVING THE HUDDLE GRABBING THE UNFORTUNATE PLAYER AS IF TO SAY "DON'T FORGET. BAD SNAP, FALL ON IT."THUS PROVING SOMETHING IS SAID. :0008
