What that video doesn't show is that Murray was 5 yards away from the guy returning the interception. In the full replay you can see clearly Dial peeling back, turning and looking for someone to block because the returner was coming his way. When he turned the only player there was Murray, Murray had a clear shot to the returner to make the tackle. Now, for some reason Murray wasn't even trying to make a play on the returner, it looked almost like he was gonna let the guy go right by him if he wasn't tackled but is Dial supposed to make that call and just give him a free pass? Hell no, you clean the guys clock...if he has his thumb up his ass with a play 5 yards from him...TOO BAD!
My beef with the argument on this play is everyone calling Murray a "defenseless player". He was not a QB anymore, he was essentially a LB or DL. What if Dial wouldn't have blocked him and Murray made a TD saving tackle? You've gotta block man...it's part of the game. If that would've happened late after a play or just about any other situation he should've been thrown out of the game...but Murray was fair game in that play and if he's honest he'd tell you so.
Watch the full replay! The wide view showing the full field of play. Murray was 5 yards from the returner, that is key here. He wasn't out in the middle of nowhere he was right in the middle of it all, he just wasn't acting like it.
All that said about the "defenseless player" BS I will say the hit was high and should've been flagged for helmet to helmet but not suspended.
The key word in the suspension rule is "defenseless player". Murray was not defenseless on this play, he just didn't defend himself and he paid the price.
