Looking to make a trip somewhere in that area next year to deer hunt. Before going through the searching process for lease land I thought I would take a stab in the dark and ask you guys. Looking for some land to lease for what would amount to one week. If you or anyone you know has any land/farm and would be interested please let me know. I would hope my track record around here would show that I am a pretty stand-up guy that would treat the land with respect. I could obviously give some references if needed. If anyone thinks they can help let me know and I will get your e-mail from jack. Thanks guys!!!

Yes I understand there is a forum for this, but I doubt anyone that could help me would be looking in there. I also fully expect 95% of replies to be jackassery or one type or the other:0074

Don't know/think leasing farm land for hunting for a week is a deal/thing in Iowa:shrug:

Generally leases are for a year, correct. What I was saying is that in reality, I would only be able to make 1 trip a year and that would be for a week or less.

Would you be looking to bowhunt or gun hunt iowa? It is a lottery draw for non-residents - at least 3 years to draw a bow tag in my area.

Better odds if you hunt late muzzy or shotgun.

I am watching a mid 150s 10 chase a doe around my foodplot as I type:00hour :00hour

Getting back after them tomorrow:0074

Given what you described, and my work, I would have to do the muzzy either right before or after Christmas if I went that rout. I assume it has slowed down at that point but how is the hunting at that point? Thanks man and good luck!

Slight chance. My gpa owns a 2000 acre farm in Missouri - beautiful land. We have friends that go out there from Virginia each year to hunt. My cousin was just there last week (see pic below). Problem is that deer season is not very long out there, and usually people "claim" the time, but I can check...

Bow hunting? Probably better chance for that...

Hunting can be awesome late muzzy. But you need two things : 1) frigid temps 2) food source

I have had my best success over standing beans during late muzzy when we can string together several days of single digit temps.

If you put in for late muzzy, you probably have about a 70% chance of drawing your first year -depending on what zone you apply for.

If you don't draw the first year, you will have to pay $50 for a preference point and you will draw the 2nd year you apply.

I would rather gun hunt given the compressed time frame, but I totally understand the situation and would be open to other possibilities.

Great looking deer your cousin took:0074

Thanks!!!!

Lee's Summit, Mo.
I'm part owner of a farm in NE Missouri. Just got back this afternoon from the opening weekend of firearms season. The weather sucked, as far as hunting goes, and we didn't do very good. One guy got a 160 last night right before sunset. Main frame 10, with a kicker on one of the brow tines.

Not sure how the best way to go about getting some place to hunt would be, but its gonna be tough, IMO. One thing you might do is go to http://missouriwhitetails.com/forums/index.php and ask around in there. Pretty active forum, and it might be a good place to start. If I hear of anything that I might think would be of interest to you, I'll let you know.

Good Luck

Thanks CC. I found a site that has leases for Mizzu and surrounding states, guess I will look into that for next year. Being unfamiliar with the area, would it be a problem if I get your email from jack in the event that I decided to use the lease site? Since I would be leasing the land site unseen, I would like to at least get a locals POV before moving on something. BTW I could hunt the rest of my life around here and never see a 140, much less a 160:scared . Thanks again for the info:0074

One nice thing about MO is their rifle season is during the rut - so you don't have to rely on food source. Also - they are over the counter, so no problem getting a tag.

I love it here in Iowa, but MO offers some good alternatives.

The same things listed above can also be negatives obviously.

Good Luck UGA
