1st off I love baseball & probably nothing will ever change my feelings. I especially enjoy minor league ball.
Re: MVP I happy the" Sandman " got it, one of the classiest guy in MLB

Winner home field advantage in series is a mistake.

Use of PEDS can't deny it , if they tied players salary with the use or if they could keep guys specimens for 2-3 yrs. because of the new drugs coming out all the time. I'm not sure how to fix it.
I'm not sure what the NFL's policy with PEDS but I would think the percentage is higher then 50%.
Can't wait till the start of the 2nd half of MLB.
GO TIGERS !

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
Very Rare to see

Very Rare to see

youngsters playing sandlot anymore.

See lots more local girls playing lots of organized fast pitch soft ball.

Sandlot or any field, was a right of passage in Cleveland suburbs ...when I was teen....1960's....yeh old fuk, ain't on blue pill though.

TV baseball still the best sedative on the planet though...

No longer in Ohio, (thank the cosmic powers for that) routinely see boys bouncing soccer ball around.

Speaking of Injuns, Francona (I remember his dad playing, Tito) got em playing hard; if they can get past Detroit they got a wildcard shot..

$100 at +165 indians make play-offs....why not?

I have always loved MLB, and I must say, I am digusted with where it has come, compared to where it was when I was a kid. Too many teams: the caliber of play overall is bad. Too many .200 hitters that strike out at least a quarter of the time. Rickie Weeks. Are you kidding me?
Plus most of the players care only about their own statistics. Very few sacrifice bunts these days. Nobody tries to hit to the right side to move the runner to third. Very few shorten up with two strikes to try to make contact. Way too many base running errors. Guys getting thrown out at third for the first out when down by 4 or 5 runs. Makes me sick. Watched somebody for the Giants get picked off when he got on as the leadoff hitter in the ninth down by one run. Unbelievable. Pitchers that can't throw strikes.

Way too many games. Playing into November on uncovered fields north of the Mason-Dixon is not what baseball is meant to be. Playing at night in 30 degree weather is not baseball. Shorten the season, reduce the number of teams or play the world series on a neutral field where the weather is conducive to baseball.

Imagine playing the WS in Minnesota, where they were dumb enough to build an open air stadium where winter starts in October. Duh. Maybe they don't plan on ever making the WS again. That would explain alot.

Oh well, I still watch, but I find myself shaking my head regularly at the lack of fundamentals that has permeated the game.

heleanth.... You brought up some great points . I'm 66 so I also watched the changes in the game & have been disappointed at times of the product that is presented. MLB has always been my 1st love & NHL my 2nd.& the quality in both leave a bad taste in my mouth.Thank god for the memories to keep the flame going. GL on the 2nd. half !

Thanks for your comments, The Mover. Another memory that I have of my youth in the 50's and 60's is all the baseball games we organized and played without any adult involvement. We played practically every day in northern Wisconsin, when the weather allowed. Now you never see a baseball game being played unless it is part of a municipal or some other type of organized baseball. It is an absolute shame that kids today are missing out on all that. An absolute shame.

Stick ball, backyard ball, 500, etc, all games that have passed over, not just because kids got disinterested, it's because the family unit busted up and no one cares!! Stick ball in the streets was a huge hit, it helped developed many former MLers, one, Bobby Bonilla. If parents don't push their kids to go out and organize a game, kids ain't gonna go out, they would rather play on their i-phone or i-pod or i-pad and get fat and lazy!!

I'm 49, so I grew up in the 70s and unless it was pouring down rain or 20 below zero--grew up and still live in Iowa-- me and my brothers and the other neighborhood kids were outside playing all kinds of games without any adult supervision.
We all went home when the street lights came on at night and we solved our differences however we needed to, including some fisticuffs if need be, but we always forgave the other person and were right back out there the next day.
Today I rarely see groups of kids out playing unless they are on organized teams. Most certainly a different way of growing up than the way those of us of a certain age did.

the lack of fundamental baseball being played at the Major League level today just pisses me off to no end.
And it makes my job as a little league coach all that harder when the kids that actually do want to play baseball--seems to be a dying sport these days--want to emulate their favorite ballplayers by not wanting to play the game the right way.

Heleanth, Wild Bill & Reds you guys bring up some great points & memories. I feel bad that kids have been cheated because of the changing times. I drive by great looking at ball fields completely empty unless a organized game is going on. My baseball mitt hanging from my handlebar was a must when I started my day. We rarely could get up enough guys to field 2 teams, so we would just play half of the field with shifting for L & R batters. Our baseballs were generally lopsided from being pounded or the cover was ripped off & duct taped. My favorite bat had a screw in the handle from being cracked. No supervision ever needed . Sorry to go on...on but those were the greatest times as a kid. Thanks Guys !
