SPORT INSIGHTS
Tennessee Titans vs. Houston Texans

One of our more colorful offshore contacts circled this game early in the week. We spoke to this line-maker and he was carrying on about some of his sportsbook's sharpest bettors piling onto Houston early in the week. The line opened at Houston -3.5 but moved to -4.5 at most books by Monday! SportsInsights flagged this move as "steam moves" early in the week.

Our contact said that Tennessee was attracting some Square money because they reeled off three wins in a row. However, the wins have been against the likes of mediocre teams like Jacksonville, San Francisco, and Buffalo. The last win was a blow-out win of 41-17 over Buffalo. Needless to say, our guy thinks the Titans are overrated right now. On the other hand, Houston lost a very tough decision to undefeated Indianapolis -- at Indy -- by a score of 20-17, last week.

Houston, with its 5-4 record, looks a bit undervalued, while Tennessee is overrated with its current three-game winning streak. Let's "buy low" and "sell high" and take a "surprising" favorite as a contrarian play ("surprising" because we don't often find value on favorites).

Houston Texans -4.5

Randall the Handle

Titans @ Texans

Texans are undependable and when you consider that they lost home games already to the mediocre Jaguars and Jets, it would be foolish to give away points to a surging Titans squad. Tennessee lost to Houston earlier and is now afforded a national stage to make amends.TAKING: Tennessee +4 ?

THE LOGICAL APPROACH
by Andy Iskoe

Tennessee + 4 ? over HOUSTON (Monday Night) - QB Vince Young clearly makes a difference and Titans have won 3 straight following their Bye and an 0-6 start. Tennessee's now won 7 straight games started by Young dating back to last season. The resurgence of the running game has helped as the Titans have averaged over 200 yards on the ground over their last 4 games. Houston won at Tennessee back in Week 2 34-31. But the Titans rushed for 240 yards in that loss and outgained the Texans in total yards. The Titans' defense is also getting healthy. Houston is rested following their Bye but the Titans are a dangerous underdog now that they've gained momentum. If they establish the running game it will allow Young to make the big plays. Houston's rush defense gives the appearance of performing well, holding their last 6 foes to under 100 yards. But those games were mostly against weak rushing teams.
Tennessee pulls the upset, winning 31-24.

Tennessee Titans (3-6) at Houston Texans (5-4)
Reliant Stadium - Houston, Texas
Tennessee Titans have scored 30 points or more in their last three games with quarterback Vince Young at the helm, but their struggling secondary will have a big task against Houston strong passing. Expect a high scoring battle. The Texans beat the Titans 34-31 in Nashville back in Week 2..
The total has gone 'over' in 6 of the last 7 meetings.
The total has gone 'over' in 5 of the last 6 meetings in Houston.

Over - 48?

Titans QB Vince Young completed 17 of 25 passes for 210 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Bills last week. But on defense, the Titans have a tall order in front of them in stopping Houston QB Matt Schaub. Tennessee is the second worst team in the NFL in passing defense, allowing opponents an average of 270.4 passing yards per game. Schaub and the Texans offense come into the game averaging 284.1 yards per game with the pass, the third best average in the league. Titans RB Chris Johnson scored three touchdowns in a home-field losing effort to Houston in Week 2.

Reliant Stadium will be jumping for a rare Monday night appearance. The Texans are coming off a bye and do so in the thick of the playoff chase. The Titans have won three in a row with Vince Young, but they are playing back-to-back road games. The Texans can score and the Titans have pass-coverage issues.
Houston takes it.

Ohio but not a Buckeye
I should also note that CB Cortland Finnegan has been back since week 8, and the Titans haven't lost since...in fact, all blowouts(SF scored a TD with under 1minute left).

He's their best CB, and one of the best in the league.

I think this game stays UNDER. TEN gonna try and run the ball and keep that high powered offense of HOU off the field. Both Houston and Tennessee 2 of the better run stopping defenses.

About 60/40 on OVER

I like the over, but since the public is all over it im staying away from it. Talking about finnegan the guy is a great cornerback, but he will be holding Johnson like always and being a texans fan Ive seen Johnson own him most of the time.

I like the Texans -4 but of course im biased.

i was on tenn all week but now im not so sure. i hate backing public underdogs because they usually lose. three i can think of off the top of my head this year were minny at pitt (loss) nyg at new orleans (loss), and denver at baltimore (loss). i'm not sure of the exact percentages by kickoff, but ten has about 68% of the money right now.

SIXTH SENSE

HOUSTON -5 Tennessee 48.5

Houston comes off their bye week, while Tennessee comes in winners of three straight, including three straight covers. They defeated Buffalo 41-17 last week by out scoring Buffalo 24-0 in the fourth quarter. Overall, they out rushed Buffalo 4.8ypr to 4.5ypr (168-89), out passed them 8.4yps to 5.4yps and out gained them overall 6.3yppl to 5.1yppl. Tennessee averages 5.3ypr against 4.2ypr and 5.5yppl against 5.2yppl overall. They allow 5.8yppl against 5.6yppl. Houston struggles to rush the ball, averaging just 3.3ypr against 4.3ypr but 7.5yps against 6.1yps and 5.7yppl against 5.3yppl overall. They allow 4.6ypr against 4.4ypr, 6.3yps against 5.9yps and 5.7yppl against 5.2yppl. Tennessee qualifies in a letdown situation, which is 81-39-7 and plays against them here. Tennessee qualifies in fundamental rushing situations, which are 552-417-30 and 120-49-8. Numbers favor Houston by four points and predict about 51 points. Tennessee has won five of seven games played here with the two losses by one and ten points. I?ll respect the situation going against Tennessee enough to keep me off of them for a best bet but I will lean their way. Solid running game along with a defense finally getting healthy and getting points to boot.

BENSON/CINC are weak?? Ranked #9 in the NFL. Frank GORE is weak?? Only if he's injured... this idiot WANTS to believe in TENN, so go ahead, and buy that ocean front property in MONTANA son! HOU got tore up by 3 of the TOP 6 rushing attacks in the NFL the first 3 weeks. I would guess that most teams would struggle vs NYJ, JAX, and TENN in that area. HOU has proven more to me on DEF than TENN has on OFFENSE, and thats the bottom line. HOU will stop TENN, but can TENN stop HOUSTON??? They didn't the first time and they relied on bad mistakes by BAD QB's to win vs SF and BUFF, and SCHAUB is NOT one of those. He's ranked #3 behind a couple of guys named Manning/BREES the past 4 weeks, and #7 overall. Schaub has a 98.1 QB RATING and is facing a TENN DEF that is ranked 31st vs the pass, giving up 69% completion rate! :scared

So you tell me.... who stops who tonight??

:director: Good luck Vince Young backers.... you'll need it!
