Kansas City area for who knows how long....
LA +155
FL +200

LA plays terrific and full of confidence with Palffy and Schneider back. NJ tends to lose against sub .500 teams.

Dog days is a new feature by yours truly. I hate laying heavy juice--it's been winning lately, but can't last. So gonna pick dogs only here, track and grade my picks. See how it goes for awhile.

WA has important injuries and FL pissed coming off bad loss, Luongo embarrassed coming off being pulled, and this team has the talent to do something about it. Last time, same scenario, they beat Leafs (granted, at home in FL).

There are even remarks in papers about P. Bure's manhood and toughness on ice after NJ blowout. That's gotta fire one up.

Billington may be in net for WA. He's 2-1-3, .871 pct. His wins came from team playing terrific defense for him they are incapable of now with injuries.

Now, I don't think either of these pics will win, but chance of losing less than dog payback, so it's worth it.

oops, I mean Bure in SJ blowout, not NJ.

Thing about these dogs is I could got 1-1 today, and make money. Go 0-2, then win a +200 tomorrow and be even. If I go 0-2 on heavy faves, got to win lot more than one to gain losses back.

See how it goes.

I think you could be right about Fla .I'll take it at +155

Christian Huselius is doing real well on his rookie season in NHL 16 goal 24 points in one of the worst teams.
strange that he was left out of Olympic team Sweden for domestic players.
Maybe he can convince Coach Hardy Nilson with some goals aginst Caps to replace him for injured Ulf dahlen.

LA and NJ went as figured, except Brodeur was better than I expected--but his team wasn't, as usual in this spot.

And Luongo played as he should after being pulled, and Bure scored as he should after the taunts and loss. But WA played better defense than I thought they would.

But still, May they all be as predictable! Ha! Sure!

I'll keep this dog picking going. See what kind of record I can get.

record: 2-0
units: +3.55
avg juice: +177

I hope this isn't the high water mark.

TR,

I have stated on this forum all year that NJ & Wash. seem to be playing to get their coach fired. Mind you NJ played better tonight but are still very inconsistent. They get absolutely no scoring from their 3rd line, losing Mogilny hurt NJ more than they thought, finally Lou Lamoriello got burnt.

I'm looking now. AT jumps out 'cause it's +400. I'd like to win that! But can't find a good reason.

Phila may finally feel the effects of flu and road. We all know how first home game after successful road trip team frequently loses. But Flyers haven't followed that pattern.

Nor do Flyers play down to low competition. Backup goalie may start, but Chech has been good lately. Coming off bad outing and will probably do well in his next.

AT has had lots of one goal losses, so maybe +1.5 +131.

Calgary looks better, +170. They've alternated between wins and losses, time for a win. Same thing with NYI, and time there for a loss. Calgary has started several road trips with a bang, then hit skids. And NYI has those significant injuries of late.

Nash +210 would be worth looking over if we find out Schwab is starting.

But to tell the truth, nothing jumps out like yesterday's did at first glance.

Thanks Rebel and Horns for the input.

Longhorns easily covered that -12 line against Providence!

Horns, yup, NJ has been inconsistent overall. But they have been fairly consistent in playing poor to sub .500 teams, and alternating between hot/cold games. Those patterns, plus (especially) LA's play when Palffy returns, was the consistent patterns I found worth betting on.

LA has hit two fine goalies playing well last two outings. Some spectacular saves. There will be a blowout soon.

WA has been even more inconsistent, for sure!

What does it mean, playing to get your coach fired? And does it give us any angle? Thanks much!

TR,

When I say playing to get your coach fired, I mean these teams(NJ & Wash.) show no drive, passion or effort. Usually when a team consistently plays with no desire the coaches message might be falling on deaf ears. Florida had this problem earlier this year which is why they fired their coach. I think Ron Wilsons act has grown thin in Wash.

As well, I have it on good authority that Jagr has not fit in with his new mates in Wash. They say Jagr is horrible to be around when you are losing, they say he whines & blames it on everyone else. Look at last year in Pittsburgh, he asked for a trade twice before Mario came back. It got out later that he asked to be traded but Mario did not let it out, part of the reason Mario came back was due to Jagr. Jagr was 45th in scoring when Mario came back and then went to finish 2nd. As for an angle I wish I could figure these two teams out. I would not be surprised if you look back that if you played against these two teams all year that you would be ahead in units. Hope this helps.

Nice calls on the dogs, guys, especially FLA. Luongo won that game singlehandly if you watched. A couple of comments on the WASH situation.

Wilson is not in any danger of losing his job if Leonsis is to be believed. May be the kiss of death for Wilson, but Leonsis has strongly backed him and McPhee. Leonsis has been nothing if not consistent, saying that this is a five year plan and they are in year 3, and that they are not willing to make wholesale changes for the shortterm. This is not coaching IMO and Leonsis has acknowledged it. Look at the 2 guys who have not played for them - Konowalchuk and Johannson, probably two of the best defensive players they have. They have been without Witt for significant stretches due to an injury and a death in his family that kept him out quite a while, and Dahlen got hurt right when he was on fire! w/o Kono, Halpern has struggled. Besides Witt, Cote and Gonchar (possibly Kuchera) the other defenseman are old and terrible and probably won't be with the team past this year. It does not help that even when they play decent defense Kolzig has played poorly. Jagr has underachieved somewhat since his injury and has a history of pouting, but word is Oates has been on his ass about it. But, Jagr is saying all the right things about how he has got to play better, etc. At least publically that is. By the time Witt and Dalhen are healthy and Kono comes back later this month, it may be too late for them to make the playoffs. As much as it pains me to say it, WASH is a good "go against" team at this point, especially on the road.

Atlanta +400 sounds nice and I've also looked for reasons to play them.

Only thing I can come up with is that Philly is back from long road trip and alot of teams have letdown first game back.

However...Flyers get Gagne (their best player) and Desjardins back tonight so that doesn't look good for the Thrashers.
