well, i'm guessing this is where the great run ends. as i've been saying the last few days, the conference tournaments are never kind to me. as promised, i'm treading lightly. one unit each.
vcu (-4) right off the bat, i'm liking this one less and less. a smart gambler would stay away from it. i didn't realize this was practically a home game for vcu, but the line doesn't reflect that. on the other hand, eric maynor's career HAS to end in the ncaa tournament, doesn't it? how good has this kid become? maybe i should play the money line. i really think the motivation of being upset in the colonial tournament last year should be enough for the rams to take care of business tonight. maynor certainly won't shrink from the spotlight.
st marys (+7.5) so tough to take the gaels without a healthy patty mills. he struggled in his return last night, and now his 2nd game in two nights? how can he be productive? but st mary's has so much more riding on this game... i have to believe they'll at least keep it close.
chattanooga (+2.5) gotta play the mocs once this year, don't i? charleston already won here by 9 this year, and they just knocked off mighty davidson. 90% are on them tonight. and yet the line hasn't moved? ok, factoring in the mocs' home court advantage, this line opened high. hey, i said i don't love any of these.
niagara (+3.5) i like this play the best of any of 'em. however, hasbrouck's injury probably destroyed any value i was going to get. the purple eagles finished the season very strong, winning 8 of their last 9 coming into the tournament. that one loss was by 3. so the last time niagara lost by more than 3 was 1/24 at... oh, siena. one thing to keep in mind when betting this game - siena has very little home court advantage at the knick/pepsi/times union arena/center.
