Eric Jokisch - Jim Callis of-then Baseball America and now MLB said at the time that Eric Jokisch was the Cubs best sleeper pick of the 2010 draft when they selected him in the 11th round. Jokisch has that extremely high mental makeup thing that everyone seems to be talking about nowadays.

Also, the lefty has flat-out posted some strong numbers in 73 starts (97 appearances) in four seasons in the system, including ERAs of 2.91 and 3.42 the last two seasons in Tennessee. While his BABIP was pretty low the last couple years and the numbers were flattering to the way Jokisch actually pitched, it still must be noted how well he has progressed.

The fact of the matter is, though, is that Jokisch might simply not throw hard enough to become a steady rotation piece and could be very well ticketed for the pen in the future.

Sox scratch Beckham because of soreness

Many Chicago White Sox starters will rest during Monday?s spring training game against the Kansas City Royals at Camelback Ranch.

Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham was scratched because of ?a little tightness,? but he said it was nothing serious. Marcus Semien will fill in at second base.

?It?s too early in camp to push anything,? Beckham said. ?It?s kind of a fluke thing, but I?m not playing today. It?s not really a big deal.?

First baseman Jose Abreu, center fielder Adam Eaton, designated hitter Adam Dunn, left fielder Dayan Viciedo, shortstop Alexei Ramirez, third baseman Jeff Keppinger and catcher Tyler Flowers were given the game off, though most worked out with the team in the morning.

After sitting out Sunday?s victory over the Rangers because of illness, designated hitter Paul Konerko and catcher Josh Phegley return to the lineup.

Left fielder Alejandro De Aza will lead off, followed by Semien, right fielder Avisail Garcia, first baseman Andy Wilkins, Konerko, center fielder Jordan Danks, third baseman Matt Davidson, Phegley and shortstop Leury Garcia.

Left-hander Jose Quintana takes the mound for his first spring start.

Here is the Royals lineup:

1. Nori Aoki, RF.

2. Lorenzo Cain, DH.

3. Alex Gordon, LF

4. Billy Butler, 1B.

5. Salvador Perez, C.

6. Danny Valencia, 3B.

7. Johnny Giavotella, 2B.

8. Jason Donald, SS.

9. Jarrod Dyson, CF.

Jeremy Guthrie is on the mound. Luke Hochevar will follow him.

You?ll notice Billy Butler is playing first base. Expect more of this during the spring. Manager Ned Yost wants to keep Butler fresh out there. In some games, he intends to start Butler as the designated hitter, then double-switch him to first and lose the DH in the process.
