SD +13 / OVER 31 ** DOUBLE PLAY ** 6.5 pt teaser
TOTAL OVER 37.5 ** DOUBLE PLAY **

I played this teaser earlier today and I'm sticking by it. I realize the points being made about MIAMI's defense, but consider this:

WHO has this FABULOUS rush DEFENSE of MIAMI played?? They haven't faced a top running back this year. HOUSTON, please... no running game at all. NYJETS had no OL and MARTIN is no longer a threat. BUFFALO did not have any offense to speak of back in week 3. They then had a bye week to prepare for the GIANTS, who again, no OL for the NY team. Finally they face Fred Taylor of JAX, but with the insertion of LEFTWICH, he didn't get the ball nearly enough as the ROOK was busy throwin INT's. 5 turnovers beat JAX, lots of rookie mistakes. NOT a stellar MIAMI DEFENSE.

Of the teams MIAMI has played, not one team is averaging 4 yards per rush for the year. WHO couldn't stop teams that can't run the ball. NOW, look at who SD has played:

KC 4.4 ypr
DEN 4.9 ypr
BALT 5.6 ypr
OAK 4.5 ypr

and then JAX and CLE who both average 3.7 ypr.

Given the above information, it stands to reason that SD is gonna be giving up some extra yards. I'm not suggeting that SD has a DEFENSE equal to that of MIAMI, the DOLPHINS are very good. BUT to suggest that LD can't run against this defense is an overstatement in my opinion. IF MIA shuts down LD tonite, then I'll believe in this defense. Until they stop a legit RB, I'm not impressed.

With that being said, MIAMI has been very vulnerable to deep passes and that is something BREES loves to do. IF MARTY would lighten up and open up this offense a little, it can be very effective going thru the air. They did it vs OAKLAND with a bunch of waiver wire guys at receiver, so I would expect to see some more of it tonite on MNF for all the world to see.

MIAMI gave up an OT bomb just last week to lose to NE, and once they get beat deep, the safeties and DB's can't be cheating up on the line to stop LD. Once LD breaks thru the line, he can be gone very quickly. My point is this... MIAMI plays not to lose. That's been their style since DAVE showed up there. YES, he's a great defensive coach, but so is DUNGY and it rarely got him past the 1st round of the playoffs, kinda like MIAMI. Being bland on offense with a great defense is not a winning combination in the long run in the NFL. You need to be able to score.

I think SD will take an early lead in this game and force MIAMI to open it up some and with Griese in the game, they will have more success than with FIELDER. GRIESE won't beat you deep, but he can dink you to death. He's used to playing in a controlled type passing offense having graduated from the "NEW" QB U, MICHIGAN! :D Also in DENVER, Shanahan had him passing short and underneath mainly and that was when he was most successful in a BRONCO uniform.

MIAMI still has RICKY and yes RICKY will get his tonite. SD has no way to stop him from getting at least 140 tonite in my opinion. The only way they will is if they are winning big and MIAMI is throwing the whole game. I don't see that happening. I see a close game, MIAMI coming from behind in the 2nd half to snare a lead, then giving it to RICKY to get them the victory. RICKY will pick up 60-80 yards in the 4th alone the way I see it. Two big drives, one for a TD, the other for a FG to pull out a MIAMI win.

PREDICTED FINAL:

MIAMI 26 San Diego 20

San Diego is moving the ball... TURNOVERS have accounted for almost all of MIAMI's pts. BREES will get another chance I feel, but if he falters, MARTY goes to FLUTIE and we get at least 2 TD's out of the Senior Citizen due to his DISCOUNT! Actually, MIAMI hasn't had to do much to score, SAN DIEGO cant' stop anyone, so I don't think they let up right away. SD gets a quick score, MIAMI answers then it becomes a slow game....

updated FINAL prediction:

MIAMI 34 San Diego 23
