toledo (+7) over marquette

* toledo finished the season in strong fashion. if you look at their last 7 games of the season, youll see them going just 4-3 in those games. but one of those losses was by 2 points on the road in nevada where they lost at the buzzer, another was on the road at bowling green in overtime, and then their most recent game in the mac tourney- a loss vs. tourney-bound western michigan. bottom line is they got better as the season progressed in my opinion

* purely speculating here, but i gotta think this game means a lot more to toledo than marquette. if the rockets were wise, they would use this rare television exposure to their advantage. theyre one of the mac teams that never gets any coverage. and i gotta think marquette expected more than the NIT this year. i think they knew they were gonna be in transition with wade leaving for the nba, but to go from the final 4 to the NIT.....thats a precipitous drop (going from playing kansas in the final 4 to an NIT date with a mac team)

* toledo is going to have the best player on the floor tonight. keith triplett is simply dominant right now. the former top-50 recruit has averaged 25.2 ppg in his L5 and hes just playing exceptionally well. will be interesting to see how marquette chooses to defend him. all in all, i just think this will be a very competitive game. marquette will be a good test for toledo. eagles are a physical and sound defensive team. i just dont think they will be able to contain toledo's offense enough to cover the 7 points.

i have to agree my man. think this line is outta whack giving the rockets no credit? all 3 of my numbers which i will use in the nit, as they dont work as well in the tourneys because of the balance of teams i have matquette by 5', by4 and losing by 6. rememebr the last one the -6 is always my key. im on the rockets as well. gl and nice -write-up

more points scored

keith triplett (+1/2) (-115)
travis deiner (-1/2) (-115)

season averages say both average about 19 (triplett 19.6 and deiner 19.0ppg)

but with triplett in a zone right now (avg. 25+ ppg his L5), im definitely takin the plunge here. even if triplett goes 3-14 from the field, ill make this bet every time.

deiner playing equally as well, but threw 1 unit on triplett (+1/2) over deiner.

Gotta think the over is the way to go w/the total. Marquette has been a solid over team all year; they still can score but this year's team can't stop anyone. Going from a Final 4 appearance last year to the NIT, I can't see them working hard on the defensive end tonight.

valuist:

i thought about the over as well. toledo has a ton of offensive firepower. defense is their achilles heel as well. so both teams are similar. and NIT 'overs' have always been great moneymakers for me (have made a ton of money playing unlv NIT games and virginia NIT games over the total, as both teams just eschew defense after missing out on the tourney every year). just think the number is a little higher that expected. toledo/wmu was 151.5 that got hit to 153.5. does marquette really score the ball as well as western michigan? not a rhetorical question- feel free to answer because you might have a different perspective.

farrow:

moneyline has been hit down and seems to have lost some value since this morning. toledo is more than capable of winning, but they have lost a lot of games on the road in the final seconds this year so theyre putting themselves in position, just not getting over the hump. they could have easily won at miami, detroit, nevada, and bg on the road. they lost those 4 road games by 4,4,2,and 3. a little better value in the spread in my opinion

Offensively Toledo is the type of team Marquette has trouble defending. Marquette does not defend very well against the three point shot and when they do players are able to get by the defender and get easy baskets. Marquettes interior defense is weak. Novak is a liability cannot defend. Offensively Novak 6'10" is an excellent scorer but he stands out by the three point line and has to be open in order to shoot,he cannot create a shot off the dribble. He only had one dunk all year. Merrit is as soft as they get for a big man. Diener will get his points but he exerts so much energy on the defensive and offensive end he wears down late in games. When he does come out for a break freshman Brandon Bell replaces him. The key for Marquette is Freshman Damian Mason. His strength is driving to the basket and scoring but also has a good outside shot, Coaches are trying to get him to take the jumper when open instead of always going to the basket. He is by far the best athlete on the court for Marquette and at times will remind you of Dwayne Wade. His problem is he can be great for a while but tends to play out of control and make alot of mistakes. Marquetteis 5-9 when they give up over 70 points and I don't see that changing tonite. If Toledo scores over 70 they should win the game and I don't see Marquette slowing down this team. Toledo +6.5 and over 153.

In my mind, on paper Toledo appears to be a wise choice. However I keep asking myself how freaking tired the Rockets must be after 2 in 2 nights at the Gund, trip back to Toledo, then right back out to Marquette.

Marquette is rested and waiting, but how motivated will they be to play in the NIT? Too many questions for me in this one to get too involved with. I'll probably toss a half unit on the over, and favor Toledo but probably won't play a side.

Where did you find that Triplett prop ?

First team to score 20 points

Toledo +160
Marquette -190

Marquette over/under 80 points

Toledo over/under 73 points

Hey g-man.

I'm thinking if Toledo has a good showing tonight I'm going to hammer Western Michigan pretty hard. I know the game hasn't been played yet. But if Toledo plays a solid game that will just atest too how good West Mich is and maybe how good the MAC is. They just seem to be underrated this time of year every year. I really see West Mich getting out of the first round so at a pick-em I like my chances. You have any thoughts on the game? I'm going to see how Toledo fairs against Marquette before I make my decision. But figure you might be able to weigh in on the game. I don't know too much about vanderbilt, but from what I hear there nothing too special.

Coattailing you on this one.....I can see Deiner going one of two ways in this game. He either is pretty letdown, going from the Final Four to the NIT, and is apathetic tonight, or he tries to be superman tonight on both ends of the floor and tires out by the end. Unless he has an ultra hot hand, I think we cash this ticket.
